I guess we have to ask why we are handling this better than France where more than twice as many new cases were reported today than the UK, and more deaths (at 17) and they have far more patients in ICU - though these fell by 4 today to 360.

Or indeed the USA where cases and deaths and pretty much everything is still climbing.

35,112 new cases dwarves our 1089 and 445 deaths = a total of 170, 487.

New York/New Jersey though still very much like the UK.

41,172 deaths v UK 41. 381.

Deaths last 24 hours 10 v UK 12

New cases last 24 hours 720 v UK 1089.

Tests 77.5K v UK (twice that on past few weeks data)

So the % testing positive will be quite similar at around 1% of tests in US to just under that in the UK.

We both had our pandemic early and are running like this.

Other big US states like California, Texas and Florida seem to have the problems and mostly started later . They have had 156 deaths between them yesterday and 15 times the case numbers NY/NJ and the UK had yesterday.

Many factors are driving how well or poorly things are going right now and to some degree timing of when the pandemic started seems important.

The France question is complex and I am not sure it can be answered to anyone’s satisfaction at this time.

The US question, on the other hand, is much easier to answer (even if it is ultimately similarly complex in scale), but that is a discussion for a different thread.

I primarily want to just commend you again on your work to share official daily figures and info.

You are treasure of BM. :-)

Testing data in. Only 150, 608 pillar 1 & 2 tests today to find the 1089 v yesterdays 162, 256 to find just 713.

Unfortunately the cases have skyrocketed today - so NW back up in the bad boy league. But not alone.

London 143 - up from 95 Highest in past 3 days

Midlands 137 up from 78. Highest in past 3 days.

Yorks & Humber 161 - doubled from 84. Highest in past 3 days.

And North West, sadly, 211 up from 165. Highest in past 5 days.

Is it not true, that, unlike here, in France tests are free and on demand?

GM scoreboard total is the worst in at least 4 days with 154 - nearly double yesterday's 89 .

Some good, some bad and one very ugly.

Bolton 5 - up from 4. 250 past month. 67 past week. 9 past 2 days (was 8) Pop score 755

Bury 11 - up from 2. 162 past month. 64 past week, 13 past 2 days (was 11) Pop score 775

Manchester 47 - up from 21 - New high and worst score since lockdown, 795 past month, 268 past week (new high). 68 past 2 days (was 55). Pop score 698. Will join the 700 club tomorrow which looked impossible 6 weeks ago.

Oldham 34 - up from 30. 721 past month, 216 past week. 64 past 2 days (was 45) Oldham and Manchester seem to be pushing the GM area towards tighter restrictions sadly. Pop score 1122. Third worst score in whole UK and not far off second behind an improving Leicester.

Rochdale 15 - up from 5. 326 past month. 85 past week. 20 past 2 days (was 16) . Pop score 939.

Salford 13 - up from 9. 281 past month. 91 past week 22 past 2 days (was 19) Pop score 644. Still top in GM as has been since the start of the pandemic but looking at risk of losing it on this measure in coming week or so.

Stockport 8 - up from 5. 256 past month. 62 past week. 13 past 2 days (was 18). Pop score 655. Closing gap on Salford.

Tameside 8 - up from 6. 245 past month, 61 past week. 14 past 2 days (was 17) . Pop score 793. Heading into 800 club.

Trafford 7 - up from 4. 223 past month, 56 past week. 11 past 2 days (was 11). Pop score 662. Also in with a chance of catching Salford as top GM borough on Pop score.

Wigan 6 - up from 3. 104 past month, 34 past week. 9 past 2 days (was 6). Top on all levels still, Bar Pop Score at 686. But also has a shot at overtaking Salford here too.
