not if you protect the vulnerable .

the mortality rate for those fit and under 60 is very low. They won’t be bumping into vulnerable.

total lockdown granny can’t see her 25 year old

protection of vulnerable strategy granny can’t see her 25 year old.

but granny will be happy her healthy 25 year old is happy living his life and seeing his friends and has a chance of a career and a relationship and some kind of future.
Naive.

The vulnerable rely on all sorts of people and would rely on them even more if we locked them in more. (Putting aside the injustice - and possibly illegality - of such draconian measures targeted at only one demographic.)

The idea that the vulnerable would ONLY come into contact with uninfected people if/when infections were rife across the whole of the non-vulnerable population, is simply unrealistic dreaming. It would NECESSARILY seep through into the vulnerable and kill them in droves. It is not a viable plan.

The situation in student halls is shocking.

Gov should force all lectures on line and force Unis to give the students their money back.

Be far more effective than shutting pubs and resteraunts.

Yep schools and uni’s are a problem but people wish to ignore this and give them a shit interrupted education while spreading the virus. You can’t beat a lose lose situation with Bojo about.

Also ,unlike in a war, the enemy could be a parent or a child. It’s hard not to break rules when it involves just seeing you family. Can any of us say we haven’t bent or broken some rules and risked infection in the last 6 months. I can’t.

Yep. Bit different to 'Grrr Nazis are bad' - one defined enemy. Now it's everyone scared of everyone in the country, by design from the government so no one goes near each other. Literally dividing people, encouraging people to grass on those visiting family. The total opposite. People wondering 'is it literally safe to hug my grandchild?' or 'can I see my best friend of 20+ years as I'm feeling incredibly low?', 'should I report my neighbour who has their mum around?' etc etc.

Is it really any wonder there's no community spirit? The whole idea of this approach has been to make everyone scared of everyone. Guess what? It worked. We've all turned into cynical, miserable snoopers. Lovely.

Can one break the rules if they are sitting on a high horse, a very high horse.

1600 students in Newcastle and Northumbria positive this week so clearly the spike in positive tests in the last coupes of weeks is coming from Students and they will be passing it on.
I believe some students in isolation are being given food in boxes now. For a huge personal debt I hope they are getting lobster although pot noodle and a banana will be closer to the mark.

It isn’t students that are the ones going to hospital with it though. That’s the issue. The question then is where are those going to hospital catching it. According to contact tracing it’s pubs and mixing in homes.
From what I understand restaurants as such not so much, if it’s just a restaurant, as people sit at one table then go home. The trouble is many pubs are also serving food so how to seperate.Think the Irish closed all ‘wet’ pubs at one point. The other issue people don’t go from restaurant to restaurant like they do with pubs so are easier to trace.

Your figures for people who definately caught it in pubs being in hospital is?

It makes you wonder if this was all some sort of "calculated risk" by the scientists advising government to send students back ? To get it to spread widely in their age group. If so, it was either very stupid, or carefully planned to get the most people affected the quickest, to get this "wave" over by the real start of winter.

As I said our HEALTHY youth and young adults should have been packed off to isolated covid holiday camps in the summer for 3 weeks at a time and infected with a low dose of covid when they arrived. Free holiday cheep beer.
There woukd have been no spike now if they had
