Naive.not if you protect the vulnerable .
the mortality rate for those fit and under 60 is very low. They won’t be bumping into vulnerable.
total lockdown granny can’t see her 25 year old
protection of vulnerable strategy granny can’t see her 25 year old.
but granny will be happy her healthy 25 year old is happy living his life and seeing his friends and has a chance of a career and a relationship and some kind of future.
The vulnerable rely on all sorts of people and would rely on them even more if we locked them in more. (Putting aside the injustice - and possibly illegality - of such draconian measures targeted at only one demographic.)
The idea that the vulnerable would ONLY come into contact with uninfected people if/when infections were rife across the whole of the non-vulnerable population, is simply unrealistic dreaming. It would NECESSARILY seep through into the vulnerable and kill them in droves. It is not a viable plan.
