I’m assuming you’re on the phase 3 AstraZeneca trials as you seem to be in the pub every day from reading your posts in the last month. I’m just jealous ;)

I do like a drink. There's been various matches I've wanted to see etc. I was out for england v WALES last night. I forget the score.

As I move soon then I'm seeing friends before I go too. All good.

I still get so frustrated with our Government and their handling of the whole situation, it is an utter unorganised shambles. I am watching the Scottish press conference now and it is like night and day.

The communication is clear and concise, I trust what I am being told and can make sense of the reasoning.

When I look at what is happening in England it makes me dispair with the leadership, i completely understand that these are unprecedented times and I wouldn't want the PM's job for anything but I feel we are rudderless.

Hospital patients with Covid in the past 4 days in Scotland are:

218 - 262 - 319 - 377 - 397

That is hard not to view as a really concerning escalatiion

Ventilated covid patients rose in the same period 22 - 25 - 28 - 31 - 33

The doctor with Nicola Sturgeon just said that if nothing was done the current rate of increase would see levels at March numbers by the end of October. He seems to think this is serious.

Horrific. If hospital figures keep doubling in a week, how long before it's at full capacity? Similar story with ICU. Can't understand any claim that these figures aren't ridiculously high and have huge potential to go as bad as if not much worse than the first wave. And that's even with better treatment and knowledge of virus now.

Why are they making alcohol the scapegoat in all this? If a cafe, restaurant or pub is open it should be allowed to sell whatever it’s licensed to sell, smacks of further big brother measures.

I think it's that people are less inclined to social distance when they've had a drink. They forget.

I agree. I have seen how some in here seem to attack Nicola Sturgeon but I watch her conferences every day as you know from my posts here and - whatever you think of her politics - she conveys things in a clear and concise way that you trust. It has to make it easier to get people to follow rules if they believe that whether they agree or not with the conclusions the decision was taken honestly and is being presented clearly.

Don’t buy that personally but ok, why can’t a restaurant sell a bottle of wine now with a meal then? It makes no sense, if they think pubs etc are a risk then shut them, don’t let them stay open but not serve alcohol ffs.

Earlier a journalist compared the bar/cafe/restaurant differences/definitions for purpose of the new rules to the court case over whether a Jaffa cake was a cake or a biscuit.

NIcola Sturgeon said clearly she did not recall the case but in her view it is undoubtedly a biscuit.

Whether you agree with her or not (I do here if it matters) I am trying to picture Boris Johnson handling the same question and suspect we would still be trying to decipher the meaning of his mumbling reply.

This kind of thing matters a lot when you are trying to get a nation weary after months of restrictions to do even more hard things for an unknown period of time. You need to have developed a bond of mutual trust.
