looks to me like they got the numbers that they needed to get lockdowns in the north and are now allocating the numbers back to London so they can lock them down as

The government's Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE) said the R number is now between 1.2 and 1.5 - down from between 1.3 and 1.6 last week.

Some amazing figures in the Men for numbers of students who tested positive in Mcr Halls of residence. 42.5%

maybe in the long run that is a good thing. Mind you my daughter has been poorly all week and no taste or smell now and so tough with her all alone in halls.

The more I read on this, the more I think this was someone's "plan" to get a big and quick spread amongst youngsters in the hope that once they've had it, they can't get it again, and spread it widely later in the year ?

I understand that they have probably spread it unknowingly in the community, but for many this is where they probably picked it up, as most didn't have it when they went back.

genuinely a scandal

took all that money for rent when most of the lectures are on line anyway

Effectively kills 2 birds with 1 stone, so to speak, as it gets the rent money in, and spreads it virulently amongst the least affected, who are then locked in for 2 weeks, in the hope that infections then start falling quickly in the medium term.

Sadly it will also have been passed to older and more vulnerable people not in the student community, which has led to a growth in hospital admissions.
