Everyone knew the lectures were On line, it's just to get money, and for them to get the university experience!

The sil has recovered extremely well with no adverse effects and should be out of quarantine soon. Daughter is still quite maudlin and sleeping a lot. No chest problems and more symptomatic of flu with extreme fatigue. Their children it has not even glanced with age ranges of two to fourteeen, so a randomly selective illness if ever I saw one. Daughter has
pernicious anemia and has to inject so maybe this is drawing out her recovery.

The more I read on this, the more I think this was someone's "plan" to get a big and quick spread amongst youngsters in the hope that once they've had it, they can't get it again, and spread it widely later in the year ?

I understand that they have probably spread it unknowingly in the community, but for many this is where they probably picked it up, as most didn't have it when they went back.

Certainly looks that way especially with the 2 week pub closures. Open again just in time for a load of eager freshers who have just got over covid and are now immune for a while at least. Might actually be a masterstroke rather than have multiple outbreaks all winter, pretty much got herd immunity amongst students.

If they are going to make an announcement on Monday why wait? Couldn’t they make the announcement today at the same time as the Chancellor’s statement??

Because when they announce it on a Friday to come in next week everyone gets pissed over the weekend.

The giving people chance to get pissed again , every time it is anounced before the weekend for next week or late at night behind a pay wall , so badly handled still

Unless as pointed out above this was an accidentally on purpose plan.

Let as many non vulnerable catch it as possible but retain plausible deniability that this was the intention by saying it was really naughty newspapers who printed the story of a plan they were trying to keep from them until Monday

So its their fault really not the government.

And/or the naughty people who went crazy all weekend expecting it be off the table next weekend - so breaking the rules by default. When, of course, they should have known better.

Someone else to blame either way as no government can knowingly encourage young people to go out and catch it as some will inevitably get ill. Though they calculate not many will be very ill. So on balance may be good.

If secretly that's exactly what they would like them to do but for obvious reasons could never say so. As encouraging people to get sick is not going to win many votes.

May not be what is happening. It could just be incompetence. There is plenty of precedent for that. But it would be stupendously incompetent to keep on giving weekends notice to let the virus spread one last time before publicly claiming they now have to do all they can to stop it spreading.
