What are the latest rules for face coverings and masks?

Rules around face coverings are easing across the UK but they are still required in some settings.

Just gonna share this because my heart breaks every time I see someone wearing a mask under their nose. It's fully, properly useless unless you cover your hooter. If more people followed proper guidelines on the mask thing, and managed to avoid taking the damn thing off at every single opportunity (usually to have a chat), then we'd reduce transmission, be able to skip some measures that are going to hurt families and single people, and damage the economy.

The govt have let us down many ways in my opinion, but there's no sign of that changing. So it's up to the likes of you and me to make the difference. Wear the damn mask - the more you wear it, the less you notice it. Every time you take it off, you're creating a bad habit, so leave it on. And please, wear it properly, and don't touch it. You'll be doing yourself and everyone a massive favour.

I’ve a beard and they’re bloody sweaty but I comply with the rules wherever I go. But I’ll Tell you something else they’ve failed us with, not providing the damn masks in the first place!! They should have posted some out to everyone household in the bloody country.

Anyone know what happened with the infamous PPE we bought from Turkey month's ago that wasn't fit for the NHS? I understand it couldn't be used in a medical environment, but surely it would have been fine for members of the public to use as a face covering on transport or in shops? Maybe it was given out, but I dont remember hearing what they did with it.

Has anything you’ve seen since March ever looked like ‘someone had a plan’?

I dunno, there seems to have been many "plans", some didn't work well (too late), some did (we gained control), now I really don't know, maybe it's still some sort of "control", just control of the end of the year, so we can have some sort of christmas period, or maybe it's just utter chaos, but I genuinely have no idea.

What is clear, is that in europe we are all going through the same things, in different stages, but for the majority of countries, even those that were doing great a week or so ago, it just doesn't look under control anywhere.

Across England, 18% of patients in hospital with Covid-19 tested positive for the first time 7 days or more after admission.
The proportion was highest (24%) in the North-West, with Tameside hospital a particularly large outlier.
Many other patients tested positive 3-7 days after admission as well, which surely makes one or two of you wonder what the real position is? Just to clarify, in the NW, out of every 25 patients in hospital ’with Covid’ at least 6 of them didn’t have it when they arrived.

I think herd immunity has always been the plan, they didnt expect so many people to die early and i think they shit themselves but have gone back to it , no need to send the students back , you and i will know about the open university, no reason they could not have done that remotely and got their grades . Uni experience is a poor excuse , especially going into winter

Herd immunity is the only plan.
Vacination gets us there but the healthy young need to be isolated and purposefully infected with low doses of the virus before a virus is available for those who aren't young and healthy.

Not suprising, infective government message and no stringent checks on those isolating has led to many people doing it wrong or those that flout it not being sanctioned.

Add some businesses and institutions trying to survive ignoring gov instruction and not isolating teams if one person catches it in their teams and nothing is working effectively.
