When you read the whole article, those things you say as well as caveats about doing nothing and the optimistic vaccine hopes are all in there, the quotes Karen picked out out of context could be seen as scaremongering though.
I only ever put the first one or two paragraphs , i dont pick anything out of context , the contexti is always when you read the article

for the quick response on getting testing up and running agreed, we still should have used the NHS lab capacity too though, that was a baffling decision not too.
We did use NHS labs and still are for hospital based tests (part of Pillar 1)
The head scratcher is not using university labs and going for the totally in-house Lighthouse labs.

Coronavirus will be around for "evermore" and is unlikely to be eradicated, a scientist advising the government on the pandemic has said.

Professor John Edmunds, a member of the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE), also said the UK can expect tens of thousands of deaths from the second wave of coronavirus in what is a "bleak" situation.

Got to say Kaz you have kind of painted that article a little blacker than it is when read.

Its actually backing up what I think most of us know in so much as this winter is going to be another disaster unless some serious decisions are made and acted upon very quickly....unlikely.

It also pretty much confirms what most know in so much as a vaccine wont magically eradicate Covid, but it will quickly change the whole picture, and that once we have it things will improve beyond recognition compared to now. Sooner rather than later Covid may well become very rarely fatal and fairly rare.

We are I think on the verge of getting well on top of this and 12 months from now things will be very different, pretty much back to normal I think.

Sadly before this there is the coming winter to contend with and given the general fuck wittery pandemic amongst our leaders, our shit climate, divided society, and high incidence of cretiny amongst the populace I do fear considerable tragedy before we start to emerge from it all.

As i said , i put the first one or two paragraphs , i dont set it up to be anything , as always you have to read the whole thing , i dont paint anything and i am getting very pissed off with that accusation, what they tell the select commitees is alway unvarnished

So last week there were 103 hospital deaths in UK which became 143 on all settings but is now 101 when distributed to the actual date of death the day before - 13 October.

To weeks ago UK hospital deaths were 59.

Today there is a new record in the second wave so far of 141 UK hospital deaths.

A u turn on gyms, this fiddling here and there and nobody knowing what to do is not going to work, the circuit breaker is needed but it has become a political football, they either want to get it under control going into winter or they dont ,they wont with fiddling about , the kids on holiday is the ideal time to reset
The circuit breaker is not required in large areas of the country. Also by the looks of new case figures in areas that are locked down, it would also be permanent.

I dont think anyone on sage is scaremongering , they see number and studies that we dont see , they also told boris nearly a month ago a circuit breaker was what he needed to do , they can see the consequences of not doing that

Van Tan said yesterday that a national circuit breaker is not needed, is he ok SAGE?
