Oh thats a shame, i wonder how the figures compare with total tests per week over the last three weeks?
As the mass random testing is rolled out elsewhere, the new positive totals will tells us less & less about underlying changes to infection rates (assuming of course you believed it told us anything useful in the first place!)
Lets hope they don’t start using these quick tests to make decisions about future tiers or lockdowns.

GM scoreboard:

Manchester 253 - up from 249. Total cases 23,648. Weekly 2295 (drop of over 500 here in past week or so). Pop score up 45 to 4277. Weekly Pop down 14 to 415.

Wigan 248 - up big from the oddly low 133 yesterday. Total cases 13, 528. Weekly 1815. Pop score up 75 - most in GM today. To reach 4116. Weekly Pop down 18 to 552.

Oldham 174 - up from 164. Total cases 12, 043. Weekly 1646. Pop score up 67 to 5073. Weekly Pop down 51 to 688.

Salford 160 - up from 111. Total cases 10, 769. Weekly 1295. Pop score up 62 to 4161. Weekly Pop down 28 to 501.

Bolton 144 - down from 150 - 6th consecutive fall for Bolton. Total cases 12. 502. Weekly 1407. Pop score up 50 to 4348. Weekly Pop down 19 to 489.

Rochdale 139 - down from 151 . Total cases 10, 142. Weekly 1261. Pop score up 62 to 4560. Weekly Pop down 24 to 567.

Trafford 134 - up from 110. Total cases 7579. Weekly 939. Best in GM. But only just holding on to it as others fall too. Pop score up 56 to 3193. Weekly Pop down 3 to 395.

Bury 133 - up from 104. Total cases 7993. Weekly 1057. Pop score up 70 to 4185. Weekly Pop down 5 to 553.

Stockport 123 - up from 109. Total cases 8738. Weekly 1010. All GM weekly totals are falling and we may have 3 sub 1000 tomorrow if this continues for Stockport. Pop score up 42 - lowest in GM today - to 2978. Looks as if tomorrow will be when GM loses its last sub 3000 borough. But the gap to Trafford for best GM pop score has been widening for days now and is back to 215. Weekly Pop down 12 to 344. The score Stockport had 17 days ago before numbers in GM started to escalate.

Tameside 118 - up from 110. Total cases 8587. Weekly 969. Joins Trafford as GMs second sub 1000 weekly total. These used to be common but are only just starting to return. Pop score up 52 to 3791. Weekly Pop down 24 to 427.

Every borough in GM saw their Weekly Pop score fall today. That is very good news and sign of a falling epidemic.

Weekly movement of GM borough weekly pop scores after recent big falls.

Lower the score the better - This Pop Score is basically weekly cases per100,000 population.

This is very, very encouraging. Wonder how far it'll keep going down and whether it'll plateau or not?

Finally a round up of how other locations did today.

On Merseyside Liverpool fell again to 165. A third of where it was pre Tier 3. Knowsley rose from 64 to 70. But the Wirral fell from 74 to 69.

Leicester had another bad day with its highest cases yet at 335, This is more than double where it was 2/3 weeks ago. Its pop score was up 95 today. I think the most anywhere. They were in lockdown all Summer and it made no difference it would seem.

Highest numbers today were Birmingham at 562 - but only a Pop Score rise of 50 shows that is not as big as it seems as this is much the biggest area by population.

Leeds were next at 397 but that too was only a Pop rise of 50 so very similar pro rata to Birmingham.

Bradford added 378 cases and its Pop rose 70. So is almost half as bad again as both the above cities.

Blackburn added 108 but this is well down on where it was a week ago. Its pop still rose by 72 and at 5275 is the highest in the UK. Only Oldham is presently also over 5000.

That is the big question. It can go up just as easily as it has come down, of course. Let's hope we have turned a legitimate corner here.

But I worry how much of these falls are connected to the falling test numbers.

However, the hospital numbers in the NW have been supporting the reality of fewer cases during the past week. If that continues it will be good news.
