After the good news - the bad.

357 deaths (which will be a big under estimate of where it will be eventually)

And a new record total of cases of 41, 385

36, 511 of those cases from England.

Highest ever and nearly 11,000 up on yesterday.

BIG Christmas testing numbers caused by the decision to let Christmas happen relatively unrestricted.

Which in 3 weeks or so will translate into already unstoppable deaths.

But surely those numbers can’t be caused by Christmas Day mixing? It’s only 3 days ago.

It's worse than that I fear - transmission at Christmas itself will not be reflected in these numbers as the incubation period plus test turnaround is much more than three days.

This is just reflecting the run up to Christmas, maybe a week or two ago. We can only hope the Christmas relaxation itself doesn't see a further significant rise.

From WHO: The incubation period of COVID-19, which is the time between exposure to the virus and symptom onset, is on average 5-6 days, but can be as long as 14 days.

Thank you to all of you. That is all I am trying to do.

Data votes for nobody. But it helps decide our fate.

If Oxford is approved tomorrow as widely rumoured it will be THE biggest game changer in 9 months.

As it will mean by March maybe 90% of the most vulnerable will have whatever protection from serious illness these vaccines will bring. Still to be tested in the real world of ever mutating viruses, of course.

So the faster we get there the better.
You deserve an award for keeping us all so well informed

Throughout the whole pandemic I haven't known one person who has tested positive, now 5 have in the last 24 hours, including my sister! The midlands is a hot spot though apparently.
