COVID-19 — Coronavirus

2 weeks ago we were losing 2-0 in the derby and while this shit was real, it wasn’t all consuming in the way it is now. 3 weeks ago it was all about the League Cup Final which saw 35000 of our fans in attendance. I think a lockdown then would’ve resulted in a huge backlash from the public. That said, I think it should’ve happened a week ago.

I was boring people with this stuff at the end of January and was called a ‘scaremonger’ in February - Cheltenham, the Derby, the Liverpool/Athletico game etc should never have gone ahead

We had a road map of what would happen and for economic reasons(rightly or wrongly) chose to ignore that roadmap

(a) It's almost certain you did NOT have it back in January, when the numbers of cases were so vanishingly small, the chance of you having had it would have been akin to those of winning Euromillions.

And (b), it depends what your job is. But if you have no symptoms and no-one else in your house does, then you should be fine to go to work provided you keep your distance etc.
Is there any chance even if your right, you don’t correct every person that says something that doesn’t suit your train of thought. Your like a nutter ranting at every one who walks by. Even putting NUT as to confirm your annoyance.

My maths isn't great and only looked at the Italy figures but 5000 deaths out of a population of 60M would be about .008% wouldn't it, which is more or less the figure quoted?

WHO is estimating a mortality rate of 3.4% nearly double the 2% they initially estimated. The original estimate was already well more than 20x the mortality rate of flu.

If we're taking Italy as the country to judge:

9.3% of the infected have died.
11.9% of the infected have recovered.
78.8% of the infected cases are ongoing.

Those figure aren't to be sniffed at.

The UK is also well above flu statistics:

4.9% of the infected have died.
0.02% of the infected have recovered.
The rest are ongoing.

Granted a lot of the statistics aren't bang on as not all cases are tested but I assume that's the same with the flu as well. Add to that these statistics are with measures that have been put in place to try and prevent worse outcomes.

To add to that there are also unknown variables to this virus in terms of the future that should also have us worried.

Any figures even remotely compared to flu should be immediately quashed.

Next problem.

Woman in her 80s (and respiratory problems) wants house cleaning. House cleaner wants to do it - because she likes cleaning, and it's her job, and there's still no word of help for the self-employed if she can't do her job. Elderly woman accepts the risks (lost husband to start of dementia+cancer and wouldn't want to go that way). And she says a nurse at the local hospital (which is normally over busy) says no-one over 70 will get a ventilator. Discuss. (No "bell-end" comments please.)
Ok if she goes and sits outside whilst it is being done and the cleaner wears clean gloves
