COVID Data Thread

LONDON DOWN from 27,799 TO 26,307 Was 23,272 last week.

SOUTH EAST DOWN from 16,680 TO 16,618 . Was 13,568 last week

These two regions are down and pretty flat Omicron or not after just a week or so.

NORTH WEST UP from 10,960 TO 14,759. Was 7787 last week

North West is going the other way - rising rather like London did around 10 days ago at the start. And had its biggest ever daily rise today. And climbed above East in doing so. Looks like NW is the new focal point of Omicron.

EAST UP from 12,546 TO 13,091. Was 9621 last week.

Others:

West Midlands UP from 6924 TO 9921. Was 5141 last week. -

A near 50% rise here too to a new high and looks set on the same path as London & North West

East Midlands UP from 6668 TO 7944 . Was 5040 last week. Also starting to go into new highs

South West UP from 6051 TO 8058. Was 5413 last week.

Yorkshire UP from 4328 TO 5947. Was 4417 last week.

North East DOWN from 2276 TO 2795. Was 1754 last week.

GREATER MANCHESTER 6233. Out of the 14,759 North West.

GM is 42.2% of the North West today. Down from over 41.9% -so signs that GM are settling flat perhaps.

Greater Manchester Data

6233 cases today - UP by 1546 on yesterday - from the rise of 3799 in the NW

That is just over 40% of the regional rise today in Greater Manchester.

Which though it might not look it is an OK day for GM - relatively

Week to week GM is up by 2650 from 3583 - from the NW rise of 6972.

That is again good ( a 38% rise of the NW total).

So Greater Manchester remains high but had a pretty good split of the NW case numbers.

BUT THE GM SCOREBOARD IS LITTERED WITH RECORDS ACROSS THE PANDEMIC TODAY

MANCHESTER 1251 - up 109 on yesterday & Up 480 on last week POP SCORE 225 (now 20,913) Wow! Highest ever cases on one day in GM. Will enter the 21K club tomorrow bar a miracle.

WIGAN 815 - up 422 on yesterday (up by more than the entire score yesterday) & Up 496 on last week - one of the highest ever weekly jumps POP SCORE 246 (now 20,492) Highest ever daily Pop Score here.

SALFORD 668 - Up 39 on yesterday & Up 234 on last week POP SCORE 254 * (now 21,398) * Highest Pop Score today AND highest pop score in GM across the pandemic for second day running - 430 now ahead of Rochdale. Huge rise here in 48 hours. Bulldozes as first GM borough into the 21K club yesterday and over a third through it already in 48 hours!

BOLTON 641 - up 294 on yesterday & up 337 on last week POP SCORE 223 (now 19,630) - Lead on Stockport slashed with these surprisingly huge numbers today - now just 64 ahead of Stockportfor lowest Pop SCre across the pandemic and its highest score ever

STOCKPORT 584 - up 97 on yesterday & Up 186 on last week POP SCORE 199 - sub 200 a rarity in GM Today (now 19,694) HIghest on both cases and Pop score here ever.

TAMESIDE 576 - up 141 on yesterday & up 350 on last week. POP SCORE 254* (now 20,512). * Joint highest ever Pop Score today with Salford. This is a shockingly high number in Tameside.

TRAFFORD 492 - up 54 on yesterday & Up 9 on last week POP SCORE 207 (now 20,684) Now a staggering 990 behind Stockport but has seemingly flattened off - hopefully!

BURY 482 - up 193 on yesterday & up 158 on last week POP SCORE 253 (now 20,730 ) Another highest ever scorehere and only just did not make it a tripple whammy of highest ever Pop Scores being just 1 behind Salford and Tameside

ROCHDALE 422 - up 124 on yesterday & up 185 on last week POP SCORE 189 (now 20,968) Will enter the 21K club tomorrow

OLDHAM 302 - up 73 on yesterday & up 115 on last week POP SCORE 127 * (now 20,436) * Lowest Pop Score today. HIghest ever low score and first time the lowest cases in GM have been over 300!

Just 2 left in the 19K club and 7 in the 20K club today but Rochdale and Manchester heading for a Christmas Eve entry into the 21 K club tomorrow. And with these numbers you have to say anything goes

GREATER MANCHESTER BOROUGHS

Weekly Case Totals

Manchester's score of near 7000 is the first time ever any borough has got near there in GM during the pandemic. 7000 averages 1000 a day is why! Salford leapfrogged into second over 3000 with its big score today but Stockport joined it in this otherwise unheralded territory for both. And everywhere is at their highest numbers ever recorded. Indeed only two boroughs are sub 2000 and at the rate things are going that might not last the week.

Oldham 1662, Rochdale 1849, Bury 2102, Tameside 2318,Bolton 2370, Wigan 2825, Trafford 2853, Stockport 3166, Salford 3253, Manchester 6878

GREATER MANCHESTER POP SCORE TABLE

After today: CURRENT POP SCORE (Up or Down Past Week) / Pop Score as it was 4 Weeks Ago today

OLDHAM 700 UP 251 / 300

BOLTON 823 UP 368 / 349

ROCHDALE 827 UP 292 / 442

WIGAN 854 UP 367 / 382

TAMESIDE 1021 UP 561 / 406

STOCKPORT 1076 UP 413 / 383

BURY 1103 UP 338 / 388

TRAFFORD 1201 UP 318 / 408

SALFORD 1238 UP 554 / 448

MANCHESTER 1238 UP 602 / 324

Six boroughs - over half of GM - above 1000 in Pop Scores for the first time ever. The lowest score on 700.

Manchester and Salford now joint top scores on unprecedented for either 1238.

Some gigantic weekly rises too. The lowest - 251 - would have been gigantic in the old pre Omicron days!

And 602 up in a week in Manchester is mind boggling.

Oldham top and doing well but that is on 700 - a score nobody in GM got near until recent weeks!

A very surreal table when you think back to the start of Delta in the Summer where Bolton's 300 or so was a big deal and Stockport was under 20 not over 1000.

The figures around new year could be extraordinary.

Sir Patrick Vallance defends scientists' role in pandemic

The government's chief scientific adviser, Sir Patrick Vallance, has said the responsibility of the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE) is not "to take a particular policy stance or to either spread gloom or give Panglossian optimism".
His comments in The Times appeared to be in response to criticism over modelling by the SPI-M scientific modelling group, a subgroup of SAGE, that said Omicron hospital admissions could reach 10,000 a day and deaths 6,000 if further restrictions were not introduced.
Those who have criticised "need to consider all the data in the round, not only those parts that fit an argument while ignoring the rest", he wrote in The Times.
"That is not science, even though it might sometimes make an entertaining read."
He said science is "self-correcting" and "advances by overturning previous dogma and challenging accepted truths".
A range of views and opinions are needed, he said, and added that no scientist would claim to "have a monopoly of wisdom on what happens next

Won't be posting as much over coming days of course.

But will try to update when I can and data appears.

A lot of missing stuff as it is weekend and most countries are not updating for several days anyway due to Christmas.

However, Wales has today posted by far its highest ever single day numbers. So Omicron has arrived there it seems,

10 deaths and 6755 cases V 3 deaths and 3129 cases last Friday.

Positivity was 20% V 11.9% last week. So a real doubling of cases. Not test related.

Thank goodness this is milder as it is so infectious it seems to spread everywhere very fast once it takes hold and Greater Manchester is right in the thick of it this weekend.

Happy Christmas all.Enjoy yourselves. But stay safe.

ENGLAND HOSPITAL DEATHS TODAY

NB THIS WILL BE THE LAST NUMBERS FOR ENGLAND HOSPITAL DEATHS UNTIL AFTER CHRISTMAS AS THEY NEVER PUBLISH WEEKENDS AND MONDAY IS A BANK HOLIDAY TOO.

Headline:- Deaths are now certainly creeping up - and NW had the most of them today - the bulk over the last 48 hours. 23 Dec recorded 17 on the first day after 22 Dec was 18. The two highest in England on day 1 in 2 months. And the two day total for 21 Dec is already 70. The most since 4 Nov. 21. And 20 Dec after 4 days is at 81.Most there since 10 Nov. So these are definitely rising now. But not as yet at a level that looks concernig given the huge case numbers.

By region:-

East 13, London 19, Midlands 20, NE & Yorkshire 16, North West 22, South East 9, South West 7

Most by Trust:-In the NW below

By age:-

SCOTLAND DATA

10 deaths - was 7 last week

7076 cases - was 4336 last week

14.6% positivity - was 10.1% last week

536 patients - was 540 yesterday & 522 last week

34 ventilated - was 38 yesterday & 32 last week

Better hospital numbers - probably discharged all they could for Christmas

HERE IS THE LAST NORTERN IRELAND DATA TREE IN A WHILE

LOOKS JUST LIKE A CHRISTMAS TREE AND FULL OF HOPE TOO

SEE THE OLDER AGE GROUPS WHO ARE MOST VULNERABLE TO CIVID BUT ALSO HAD THE MOST JABS AT THE TOP VANISHINGLY SMALL IN THE OVER 17,000 CASES IN THE PAST WEEK

ALSO HOW THE UNDER 20s THAT WERE DRIVING IT (MOSTLY SCHOOL AGE) ARE NOW BEING USURPED BY THE 20 - 39s DRIVING THE WAVE AND MOSTY CATCHING OMICRON - ESPECIALLY THE 20 - 24s- THE ONES LEAST LIKELY TO HAVE HAD THE BOOSTERS.

HENCE THE BIG PUSH TO VACCINATE THEM PRE CHRISTMAS

THIS CHRISTMAS TREE OF HOPE VISUALLY PROVES THE VACCINES WORK AS THE AGES MOST VACCINATED ARE LOWEST AND VICE VERSA. NO CONSPIRACY. JUST SCIENCE.
