THIS IS THE LOWEST VENTILATOR NUMBER IN SCOTLAND SINCE 1 JULY.

ALL FOUR NATIONS NOW HAVE THESE LEVELS GOING BACK MORE THAN 7 MONTHS TO MID SUMMER - A VERY CLEAR PROOF OF THE MUCH LOWER MORTALITY LEVEL OF COVID

382 patients - was 362 yesterday & 376 last week

12 ventilated - was 11 yesterday & 13 last week

Big jump here

294 in England - was 185 last week

So as you see ALL the rise and more was in England.

This is an artifact of the mix up on numbers last week on the first day they changed the method and that made them too low for England one day and too high the next as they had to catch up

As we said at the time it wa misleading. And it wasn.

Tomorrow it will probably seem to fall a lot as they made up for the error by posting 519 England deaths - so it will very likely be way below that tomorrow.

But the drop will be just as misledingly high as a rise instead of a small fall is today.

Hopefully the media are on the bll with this.


66,183 cases - up from 57,623 yesterday but down from 112,458 last week

England only 58,453 - bit of a rise (of 9852) from 48,601 yesterday

But a huge fall of 44,900 from 103.353 last week.

The Monday to Tuesday rise always happens due to how testing works and the rise from Monday to Tuesday is less this week than it was last week by quite a bit - so nothing to worry about.

ENGLAND HOSPITAL DEATHS

Another good weekly drop. There is no question now deaths are on a clear downward track - this is the lowest death total on a Wednesday since the Wednesday before Christmas when cases had just started to escalate via Omicron.

We are also close to having the first sub 100 five day death total since 2 January. The latest 4 February reached 106 and the day behind - 5 February - is on just 83 after 4 days.

I did not see it but it was inevitable this issue with the death counting was going to confuse some which is why I clarified what happened.

The fall today looks bigger than it is for the same reason.

Really both days were down modest amounts. Which is good news.

Ventilators fall but ony by 1

On 384 V 432 last Wednesday (then down 17)

Unfortunately NW bucked the trend where most fell 1 or stayed level and was UP by 3 to 54 V 46 last week

As you can see the small hints of a downturn go on but they are slow not rapid.

However, the day to day numbers are still clearly edging down:

Predicted cases today 201,351.

This is down 2622 on yesterday (203,973) V fall of 1625 (from 205,598) day before & and 1405 (from 207,003) the day before that.

This certainly looks encouraging evidence of an increasing fall.

Ongoing symptomatic cases today are on 2,645,659 - a rise of 28,274 on yesterday.

These are still rising but the change takes longer to impact here as cases are NEW cases only once on the first day but are ongoing as cases for a week or more.

Yesterday the rise was 33,821 & day before 38, 121 - again the track is clearly downward.

If the day to day fall continues at the same rate the numbers here will be falling too by early next week.

ENGLAND HOSPITAL DEATHS

A lot of deaths from the North West today bumed it up slightly on last week. Matches the ventilator numbers over the past week not falling as well largely due to NW going up. The legacy of when NW cases were top of the England numbers 2 or 3 weeks ago reaching their sadly inevitable conclusion for some. Bt those numbers are now much lower so future deaths will be too.

The deaths elsewhere are clearly still on a downward track as they peaked before the NW in the south.

We were very close to having the first sub 100 five day death total since 2 January. NW sadly just spoiled that - 5 FEB had 101. But that is V 129 a week before and 145 two weeks before.

Gov UK have decided to resolve the change to Scotland case counting that has confused us over the past 2 or 3 weeks - by basically adopting the Scotland number. BUT only from today. ​

Below is how they explain they are doing it. It limits the data they can post for Scotland now. Atleast temporarily. And it adds on in one go the extra cases over the 3 weeks it seems.​

So the number added today is probably about 3K over what it would have been before - I think - as 7275 is well up from last week - 4355 - when positivity fell so I assume this is about right because of the adds on. ​

If so the UK total today is around 3000 plus higher than it would have been without this change today to at least bring the different scoring into alignment of some sort. ​

Though it has other consequences on Gov UK data as you will see from the explanation below.​

New case definition for Scotland​

From 10 February 2020, positive rapid lateral flow test results are included in cases for Scotland.
Historical cases by report date have not been revised, so there has been a step increase in the cumulative numbers of cases.
For more details, see the update on enhancements to COVID-19 reporting by Public Health Scotland (PHS).
Because of the new case definition for Scotland, underlying data files for cases and deaths have changed structure. While these changes are incorporated into the dashboard, we can only include figures for cases and deaths by report date at national level for Scotland.
Figures by specimen date and date of death for Scotland and local authorities in Scotland are unavailable and will be included in a future update.
Reported testing figures for Scotland remain PCR only whilst we work with PHS to include rapid lateral flow tests.

18 deaths - was 8 last week - bit of a jump here sadly

1899 cases - was 2606 last week - but cases still falling

13.5% positivity - was 16.8% last week

722 patients - was 774 last week

16 ventilated - was 13 last week
 
ENGLAND HOSPITAL DEATHS

After yesterdays big high for the North West the reverse today - single figure deaths in the region - lowest on a week day in months.As I said yesterday these were always like ventilaor numbers a result of high cases 2 or 3 weeks ago and future deaths will fall because cases did and have recently been about 5000 a day in the NW V 12,000 3 weeks ago.

This is also the first sub 100 normal weekday total (as in not a result of Sunday lack of registrations reported on a Monday) during 2022. Showing deaths are now undeniably falling well.

It is quite possible we will have the first sub 100 five day death total tommorow. As 7 FEB is after four days on 80. Lowest of this year.
