Covid: Personal views

Respect.
That must have hurt posting that.
It hammers home that low risk matters for nought if you are the exception.
It did indeed, but with Mr Blue recanting his story I thought it right to follow suit and explain my own motive. It's always difficult to talk, even though we have a wonderful thread from Bill allowing folk to open on up. I noticed Mr Blue had family problems with mental health and so that also struck a resonance. The mind is a finely balanced machine that can be ever so slightly tipped in the wrong direction and after the grandson passed away our lad died too. That of course without even realizing, sent us into dark recesses that can be a difficult process to climb back out from, but they say time is a healer. Looking back I would probably say that on a personal level I wasn't firing right. Anyway thank you for your your empathy Denis and so very true if you happen to become the exception. Nothing more to add about the vaccine except to say we really have to get on the right side of this Covidial menace and put it to bed once and for all. I hope every thing goes well with the immunization program in December and like many will be monitoring the situation closely.

Thanks mate. It was the whooping cough vaccine that took my brother - he was just 18 months of age.

I agree things have moved on but some scars never heal and caution in our family has been the norm with vaccines in our family for decades and will continue to be.

As I posted earlier today, I will take the vaccine once I have squared it off in my head it is safe to do so.
No probs mate, and there’s nothing wrong with taking a cautious approach. Despite any reservations of my own, I was very optimistic when I heard the Pfizer news yesterday.

I’m sorry to hear that mate and I understand you feeling cautious. Sorry to have sounded blunt. Just do your research properly when the time comes, fair enough?

Losing a brother to reacting badly to a what was considered a safe vaccine has meant I have had to ensure things were safe for me and my children growing up. My kids never had that same vaccine that took my brother at 18 months of age.
So, I will want greater assurances than most, as will my children and their kids.

If that makes me an idiot by some on here, so be it.

Very sorry to hear of your loss.

You prompted me to learn more about the vaccine for whooping cough.

I can't find any reference to fatalities ascribed to it at all.

Is this the vaccine? Can you point me in the right direction?

(I've no interest in disputing or debating the issue, purely would like to learn, and please feel free to ignore if it's too painful)

I'm sorry, I don't know which whooping cough vaccine it was. As you could imagine Mum and Dad blamed themselves and really did not like discussing it with us when we got old enough to understand. Needless to say, me and my other brothers were not vaccinated against it, nor were my kids.

When my daughter was ready for her first injections, my mother in law, who worked as a hospital matron, gave me a phone number and some advice. The advice was: Kate has red hair and has some dermatological problems, the measles jab is contra indicated. The phone number was a guy who was prominent in the development of mmr. At the time, it was 3 separate injections.
I rang the number, told the guy about Kate and asked: if she were your daughter would you give her the measles jab? No, he replied.
I am not antivax in any way but this episode made me think that some info is kept back in the interests of creating herd immunity.
(Red hair is genetically based and general anaesthetic doses are modified for red haired ppl.)
