I used to keep and totally understand this. I used to get moaned at for stuff I had no right to catch but would get a finger to. I started leaving them after a while and let first slip get the blame. Obviously a much much different level lol.

For the record I thought Jones was a decent keeper.

He is also one of the nicest most humble guys you could ever meet !

Plus he took that catch !!!

He was decent but not international class. His batting got him in the side.

England wanted 5 front line bowlers in 2005 and therefore needed a keeper who could bat otherwise the tail started at 7.

Nowardays it starts at 1.

Arguably one of the most important catches in Ashes history. Aside from that, I thought he more than played his part in one of the greatest series ever.

Probably no one who has ever played cricket will get the job.

Gower had 18 years playing the game and a broadcasting career of 26 years. It’s a pity his knowledge will be lost, but at the same time it creates opportunities for others. Gower is probably deemed too laconic and understated for modern audiences. Botham will presumably go, too.
