Why do bowlers push it so fine to the line? Is 3 or 4 inches further back going to make that big a difference?

Some fast bowlers go entire seasons without bowling an extra so the answer is no.

Presumably, most bowlers will still step out their run ups. Why can't they then place their marker (if they use one) or their scrape mark half a pace further back again?

I completely agree mate, I really cannot understand it.

The amount of time they have to practice and get this right, to only let it ruin them getting wickets is frustrating.

its hard work watching and giving them cheap runs is wrong ?? ok 5 down at tea but they have scored 167 and all it needs is a big partnership and they could be in the game, i said we can not fuck up from here this morning ?? and its still long odds on them winning, but you just never know and the way england been giving them easy runs 4s and scoring well over 4 a overs root is still on dodgy footing
