Hate to say it but my prediction was pretty accurate as we lost by 157, not 150.If they don't lose a wicket, it'll be about 125/130 at lunch. I know the ball is 32 overs old, but, they'll be nervous and careful. If the openers stay in, great. If not, it could be even slower.
Getting through the 1st hour is crucial because the bowlers will tire today and the Indians will fret if they can't get a wicket. The fielding will go to pot as well as the day progresses.
So, all in all, we'll lose by 150 runs.
:-)
The game was there for the taking at one point but the Indians rose to the occasion brilliantly.
I don't feel for Root as he's got no back bone, imho. His team is similar. I know he has a decent record but quite how it's as good as it is, I don't know.
He should have gone in at 3 today - him, and the management should know that the left arm spinner, Jadeja, is the biggest threat to the left handed batsman, of which we have 3. Burns is the first, and he did well, but, when he was out, why expose another left hander in Mallan to unnecessary pressure of facing the extra threat from Jadeja? Why expose him at that point? Plus, if the Captain had come out early, what a signal THAT could have been.
The last left hander is Anderson, and when it's time for him to bat, it no longer matters. Mallan should have dropped down a couple of places if necessary - it's no biggie, and would have been a clever step to take and, if Root had come in at 3, we'd have had a well set right handed Hameed and Root to negate Jadeja's threat. This may have exerted more pressure on their seamers - we'll never know. But, I'll never accept that this wasn't worth a try.
