Problem however when sides in the shortened format are not faring well; can they ask for certain players to be released?

then central contracts are the way to keep them in test cricket
20 players hand picked to play 4 day county cricket and international test cricket that's it.
even have a setup up below when all players available to play for england can have a chance as well with B-teams and youth teams

all am asking is give 2 years to learn the basic skills of test cricket then a choice between white or red ball cricket after the ashes.. i do feel ODI/20/20 and the hundred is not cricket but just entertainment without to much skill

Joe Root is a fantastic cricketer but he has never struck me as a leader like Hussain or Vaughan did. I still think a better choice of captain would be Ben Stokes when he’s back available.

yep

a captain must be sort of hated by the team not mate's and all smiles
at the end of the day its your job that's on the line not theirs

simple things make a big difference as captain ? you need balls to make the right call at the right time

Don’t disagree. Also think there has to be greater forward planning, and that it shouldn’t take quite so long for players to break into the Test arena.

Good point
Its great in theory but it's never going to happen is it. Couple of examples off the top of my head Parkinson and Mahmood at Lancashire. Now I'd have both in the team for the next test but there is no way that them 2 lads for example are going to turn their backs on white ball cricket where the money is.

Realistically I think the days of Cook Atherton etc are gone and I think that's the case all round the world. The Indian openers have been good but they are both outstanding batsmen in all forms.

well if enough people want change then it has to happen
to much skill of test cricket is dying quickly and it has to ask the question how long does the future of test last

for the good of test cricket lovers do something now before we lose it for good ? the English batsman can not bat at test cricket levels. we are not good enough because of ODI cricket its that simple

I certainly think he's too nice.
Hussein and Vaughan, like Kohli and Australians, weren't shy of pushing the limits of acceptable behaviour.

I keep saying it you have to have red ball cricket in the summer Mon -Thurs.The hundred,Blast and one day cup on Fri,Sat and Sun.
We need to find a quality opener to go along side Hameed. The middle order of Bairstow and Pope both get bowled and Lbw too much and are not test standard see the 2 dismissals today.
This is my idea of a squad.
Jennings,Hameed,Root,Salt,Vince,Abel,Lammonby,Whiteley,Stokes,Foakes,Billings or Simpson,Woakes,Ali,Leach Parkinson,Wood,Anderson,Robinson,Broad,Mahmood and Parkinson. We need to pick a squad stick with it and change the captain.
Root hammered Anderson and Robinson in this match. He has no plans it seems unlike Vaughan and Strauss who tried things.
For me he is too quick onto the defensive in the field.

Stokes has a rather fractious relationship with the ECB, and up until 2020 hadn’t captained any significant side.

Traditionalists will likely view him as not the kind of ‘character’ to captain England, whereas others might view that sort of ‘character’ as exactly what England needs.

Leaving character aside, that lack of captaincy experience may not make him any better than Root.

From 100 for none too 210 all out is shocking, no one prepared to dig in and grind out an innings, first bit of pressure and they crumble, awful but predictable day for the English batsmen.

And not be arsed if you piss another player off, that is why I was a crap captain when I was playing.
