Just back from Trent Bridge (free ticket !), astonishing day in the sun (wondered why all the people in the queue had sun cream).

Most folk round me thought it was heading for a draw, I thought NZ would win it when Root was out. Astonishing barriage including a six that whistled inches over my head into the top tier of Radcliffe Road.

Good day out in Nottingham too; easy entry and reasonably priced food and drink.
I’ve not been to Trent Bridge since 1984(5?) to see Lancashire win there in the B&H semi. Loved the ground and although it’s unrecognizable nowadays from almost 40 years ago, it still looks fabulous.

Watched while WFH, what a brilliant test match.

I had us losing in 3 days after their first innings, a draw nailed on after both first innings, us getting battered after their second innings score, and even at tea on day 5 expected a defeat, then Bairstow decided to take it on, what an innings, aided and abetted by Stokes.

Brilliant test match it really was.

They were talking about this one TMS the other day and they were saying that this is actually a myth.
They said it was actually the Sri Lankan team with Jayawardene and Sangakkara that started to increase the run rate in test cricket, which was then followed up and improved by the Hayden, Gilchrist, Ponting team. That was before t-20 even existed. They were saying run rates have actually gone down in comparison to those times and teams.

I thought of Gilchrist yesterday too.
Sri Lanka made it cool to have crazy openers, but the Gilchrist team was the mad middle order.

agree and on the aerial shots it was lovely to see Forrest’s ground . That is going to be a great away trip next season.

I don't ever get to see county cricket, so I can't say I really know his game. But watching the highlights of the entire test through, it struck me that Leach appeared to be getting no turn whatsoever. He was just being slaughtered by the Kiwis. Ok, dead pitch and all that, I understand (although NZ were entirely bowled out twice, and England once). But is there anything more to his game? Genuine question.

Aaah, bad memory of seeing us there against Clough's team in October ’77! I really thought we were going to be champions that year. A game played at a hundred miles an hour, by both sides.
I love stadiums by rivers, though.
