I think believing they could have had a good day today is one thing, and absolutely fine - confidence isn't a bad thing.
Claiming they were in a strong position just sounded daft as no-one else thought they had.

Be interesting what they say at close today? Probably say we need to put a score on to make it difficult for India

I thought the coach they sent out today spoke pretty well, a little too optimistic to my mind, but not ridiculously.
Made sense to send a coach too, as the players should be straight inside after all day in the field.

Back in 2021, England were out of the blocks quickly in Chennai but were then comfortably reeled in, losing the four Test series 3-1. Going to be a long tour for England if their bowlers can't learn to strangle their opponent, yet with two inexperienced spinners doing the lion's share of the bowling, one probably shouldn't expect anything different. There has been precious little development and consistency with spinners in recent years, so while a few painful weeks might lie ahead, it will all be doubly pointless if Ahmed and Hartley are then dispensed with.
