From the writer who coined the phrase 'bazball' an obituary.
Not really followed cricket too deeply for a good while so forgive me. Dont all the countries play the short game now? isnt T20 big everywhere? Where do the likes of Australia Cricket differ with ours when it comes to playing test cricket?
What are their younger players being subject to thats different?
With respect relying on the supposed fitness of Archer and Woods was delusional. Archer has bowled 169 overs in first class cricket in the last 2 years whilst Wood has bowled 11 overs this calendar year. To expect either to rock up in Australia given the heat and harder pitches and deliver defies belief. The fact that they are permanently injured is precisely the problem

I'd make 2 changes for Adelaide.
Drop Duckett and put Jacks in as opener.
Plus drop smith and put Pope in as keeper, this creates another bowling space
Two spinners, ones a part timer with only 50 FC wickets at over 42, and the other one can't get a game for Somerset lolDuckett will stay in the side, Pope and Smith are the ones looking down a barrel, Jacob Bethell, Will Jacks, Shoaib Bashir, could all play.
My bet is Pope stays in and will take the gloves from Smith and Jacob Bethell comes in and Joe Root will bat at 3
Also, england could pick 2 spinners as Adelaide is normally spinner-friendly
Wood ruled out the series.
He bowled 11 overs!
Wow some squad planning that!
Not only take just 16 players. In there are Wood, Archer and Stokes!

Jacks should be moved up the order to 3 and we should bring in a bowler for PopeDuckett will stay in the side, Pope and Smith are the ones looking down a barrel, Jacob Bethell, Will Jacks, Shoaib Bashir, could all play.

I think thats a consequence of how County cricket is these days. I feel sorry for spinners in England. Two spinners, ones a part timer with only 50 FC wickets at over 42, and the other one can't get a game for Somerset lol
It's beyond comical at this point.
Jacks should be moved up the order to 3 and we should bring in a bowler for Pope
Atkinson instead of Carse for meI understand your idea but Jacks has to bat higher up in the order. Root at 3 will be ideal if we lose an early wicket, jack's may panic and we are 2 for nothing again. Pope being wicket keeper will want to bat at 4 or 5
Shoaib Bashir has to play for Atkinson or Carse. Stokes Archer Carse Bashir would be my pick for bowlers and then Jacks can bat and bowl

The quality of spin coaching in pathways and exposure to play at 1st class level is not the best.
What you do see is spin bowling sometimes dominate age group cricket and thats mainly down to batters ability to play spin on sub standard club pitches that age group cricket is played on. Once they get on pro decks its a different story and the county game is geared towards seam & swing bowling.
From a wider cricket perspective, I think the art of spin bowling is in decline, India are not producing international standard, Aussies still rely on Lyon, not sure about SAFA, Pakistan or Sri Lanka
Atkinson instead of Carse for me
so true mate - the vast majority are playing county 2's and are taken off the minute they get whacked abit. The main thing is give them time to developA very good spinner can bowl on anything, given the time to develop and understand the art of spin
A spinner needs a mindset to be confident in his arm and wrist, then it's all about the run-up or steps and timing the release of the ball, it can be very painful learning the right releases from the wrist.
Funny thing is, a spinner's once told me the best tool to have is not to spin the ball
Yes agree so why can’t Bashir (who I think has some good qualities) not find a county and bowl regularly?so true mate - the vast majority are playing county 2's and are taken off the minute they get whacked abit. The main thing is give them time to develop
