So far so good. Plenty of singles out there. Aussies defensive from the off. Not often you see that.

I'm not sure what the Aussies are doing here. Trying to prevent boundaries which allows us to rotate the strike...they should be letting us go for the big shots and getting everyone around the bat surely? They seem very nervous about our attacking approach. I thought they'd fight fire with fire and back themselves to force mistakes.

It's only been an okay start so far though. I always add a couple of wickets to the score, because we can easily lose a couple. Make it to lunch 110-1 or something like that and it's been a great first session.

They're just trying a few weird things to counter bazball. Don't think it's particularly thought out, just trying to unsettle the batsmen by showing them something unexpected.

Excellent start. But that's all it is, a start. As has been said, we need to get 400 at least. I'm not sure that our bowling attack is the strongest we've ever had. Broad and Anderton are no spring chickens, no Leach is a blow, Robinson is untried (IIRC) in an Ashes contest, and the question of how will Stokes' fitness hold up.

Now the fight begins. We cannot be more than 2 down at lunch. We've battered the ball about, it's a good time for Root to come in but both of these have to stay in until lunch and beyond or the Aussies have won this session as limp as they've been.
