Foakes yes but not sure YJB is an Ashes Opener. Having said that not sure who is good enough in England atm.

Understand where you are coming from, but my thoughts were he would follow the 'front foot' doctrine and take the game to the shackle draggers.

As I type this its lunch, seems fairly even so far

What’s everyone’s opinion on Pope? Seems to be highly rated but he never fills me with confidence.

He’s also being lined up for when Stokes gives up the captaincy.

We will see after the series! A very good batsman he will get runs captain wise in the future I don’t know never seen him captain a team..

Seems to me they let England play their game knowing they would get themselves out. No real pressure applied from Aus. England free scoring but at a cost.

And with that it's advantage Australia.

Tactically it's seemed strange to allow us to rotate the strike, but actually it's worked well because the scoreboard has ticked over but not at a dramatic pace and they've still taken wickets. We can't really afford to lose anymore wickets in the next session now.

Root will be loving the space to just rotate the strike and we've got to change our approach in the next session to just keep ticking things over without losing a wicket.

Not sure that session belongs to either side, bits for both to cling to over lunch, which makes it good for those who enjoy the contest.
