Cricket Thread

That is the greatest thing in cricket/sports, A world-class message board manager like myself never shows his hand or his team selections to anybody else, I've seen what you did there in trying the oldest trick in the book but you're not fooling me,

that's why I have won 10 cricket world cups, 12 Fifa world cups, 10 Euro championships, 25 Premier League titles, 19 Champions League titles, I've even won world titles at Ruby, Hockey, NFL, Basketball, to name a few

Livingstone and Moeen Ali as well
I don't understand why Bairstow is being picked, OK he's in for the batting but his fielding is poor and looks overweight, looking at the group it looks like most of the other teams NZ will beat as well, So maybe getting them out of the way first will work in England's favour

I will say one thing ?
all of the above players you and I named will stand down after this world cup

My only issue is it seems we're undercooked for this tournament in terms of the number of ODI games we've played and particularly the number in Indian conditions. We've picked a squad in a Southgate style - who has the experience, who won us it before, and we've ignored the fact we're playing in India where you'd expect Woakes to struggle to bowl and Malan to struggle to bat.

A long way to go yet. India's a vast country with different wickets and different conditions across it. But so far, it looks like you win the toss you bowl could give you a huge advantage, in which case our NRR isn't so much of an issue and a qualifying/winning it will be 50/50!

I still think we're good enough to qualify. I would have picked India, Australia, Pakistan and England before the tournament, with SA and NZ as outside picks. Those teams can all beat each other on any given day so I think you can qualify losing 3 on NRR. We'll have to hammer a couple now is all!

Out of interest, why is Malan expected to struggle?

One thing seemed to be that NZ decided not to hit the ball in the air at fielders much! The highlights showed a lot of driving along the ground. I thought this a year or so ago in England - not sure who against - England continually hit the ball up and were caught, the opposition didn't.

That Ahemedabad ground looked very big to carry, apart from straight down the pitch.

A octogenarian looking Lancashire member made that point in the AGM a while back. Mike Watkinson replied, "there are no fielders in the sky".

The Malan shout might be harsh - he's got credit in the bank for me and has justified his selection and improved year on year. He's been weaker against spin typically though, which is why I thought he might be out of the squad in favour of Brook initially.

All well and good if you hit it far enough. What goes up, must come down.

At T20 level, it's less of a problem as losing one or two doesn't make much difference.

I avoided this thread yesterday no suprise to see thaflt ancoats has come from under his rock after a poor England performance , wont be seen again for a while if things improve

under my rock ? Let's not forget I was right about Root being a poor captain, I never question his batting skills and he is up there with the best, the Ashes were lost in the first 2 tests with poor selections, Why Woakes and Woods did not play in the first 2 test was a joke.

I don't think England is winning the ODI World Cup But it is just my view on this message board

Nice performance from the Netherlands in their opening game of the World Cup.

More interesting than the minnows who seem to get absolutely shafted in the Rugby World Cup.

Just had a quick look at the 2019 World Cup thread for a laugh.

Guess who couldn't take the rough with the smooth then as well?

You being here when things are not going well is not in question. it's your vanishing acts when we are

I am not a big fan of ODI and 20/20 cricket, But test cricket then Yes, I am in, Only the Root (captain) later Years I have been very judgemental and rightly so, I think England only won 1 in 17 Test in the lead-up to Root being demoted as captain,

This summer Ashes also was very poor at the start, Big mistakes were made by Stokes and also the selection committee in not playing Woakes and Wood, then Picking Jimmy Anderson for 4 tests for a total wickets of 5

With the right selection from the start in this summer ashes England should have won 4.0 or 4.1
So am only saying what I see. I think most people see it the same way

So you never saw the improvements later in the series ? Your silence was deafening and you were tagged enough,

Watching the Bangladesh Afghanistan game, the outfield is in a shocking state, I can see there being injuries in the field, it's like a cabbage patch

No fcker watching! Apparently sale of tickets only went on sale 6 weeks ago! Don't the World Cup tickets go on sale years before it?

the thing is the Aussies retained the ashes before the last 2 tests and that was job done for them, Ok winning the ashes was still on the cards, But the truth is they we not the Aussies of Old and England should have won the Ashes if the selection was right and not fucking up the declaration by Stokes

That’s not true. We won tests 3 and 5. Had we won 4, we would have won the ashes back.
