Get to 300 it's a score to defend but we need bowl well still, New Zealand's batters can hit it hard

To take a break from cursing the team, the average first innings ODI score is 250ish and second innings is 200ish. I don't think it's particularly easy to score runs, and I don't think it will dramatically change.

But without too many to chase, they can play a more reserved knock. We've got an excellent bowling attack though so I've not given up on this one just yet.

You’re right not to give up on them, but this is definite under performance by the batsmen (although I appreciate your stat about the advert first innings score). Everyone in double figures, only Root made a big score

Yeah we're certainly light. Especially when you look at the strength of batting in our team and their bowling options. We needed to get to 40 overs 4 down in order to have the ability to kick on and get 320ish. We'll need to take regular wickets to be in this, and with the rate so low they don't need to worry too much about regular dot balls so I'm minded to agree we'll struggle to win this! Considering how shit my posts have been I'll say NZ will win comfortably.

I think their bowling has been really disciplined after 12 in the first over. No no balls and only 3 wides is pretty good too

The pressure of batting first and looking to accelerate. Just needed a couple to stay in and knock it about didn't it. That last over gives the score a bit of respectability. Hopefully we can get off to a good score with the ball, got enough part timers of our own to take some wickets!

Remember the last final ? That was a low scoring turgid affair & I feared the worst then, let’s see when both teams have had a bat, the temptation is to think we’ve got ourselves out too many times, but that comes with disciplined bowling as well and they were good, 50 overs is a long stretch to hang onto your wickets and we have a great bowling attack, NZ will look to get a run a ball (ish) and preserve wickets for a big acceleration, Rashid will be very important

We have no idea how that decent that score is until we’ve bowled.

We could have scored more, but we can easily defend that score too.

The key will be ensuring they don't get off to a flyer, we need that run rate to keep creeping up so they never get in a position to comfortably tick it off. It's a solid enough score to defend if we bowl well, and their batting lineup is certainly weaker without someone like Williamson who can just drop anchor and see a chase like this through.
