Didn't even bother watching the second innings because I thought it'd be a foregone conclusion. Surrey's batting was lacking a bit in the final overs so I can see how it was chased down though.

Just a question for those more up to date with English cricket, would Liam Livingston be considered an option as a off spinner for test cricket. obviously dynamic with the bat and used to bowling under pressure although in the shorter formats but why is he not an option.

Foakes was never going to play though.

Bairstow is arguably our third best batsman after Root & Brook/Pope and he was in the form of his life up until his unfortunate injury.

There have been numerous times where we could have dropped Crawley with good reason. But he played a fine knock in the first innings and Duckett has a test average of well over 40. Rightly or wrongly, I think we’re likely to persist with the openers for now unless there’s an injury.

Isn’t he a part-time leggie?

Nowhere near test standard - with bat or ball - from what I’ve seen. Don’t forget what happened when we played Jason Roy in the last Ashes in England….

Will Jacks and Liam Dawson are both above him in the pecking order.

Foakes plays in the last test and we almost certainly win it.

Thank you I`m out of touch with the county scene. I just watch Ali and question if he is the best option we have. Livingston is a better bat and from this first test performance Ali really didn`t look a threat with the ball.
Is Bairstow a test standard keeper? it was debatable before his horrendous injury and after his first test not many would say he was. This England side look to be inventive and progressive lets hope we improve for the rest of the series.

Doesn't make any sense to call him up if we don't plan on playing a spinner. He'll be there in case Moeen's cut hasn't healed sufficiently. I still think Wood for Jimmy will be the only change otherwise.

Yeah maybe but they should know Ali scar on his finger will open up again and we know 2nd innings he couldn’t bowl well enough because of it! For me I wouldn’t pick Ali
 
A good win for Lanky - a win next Friday v Yorks qualifies, and then home to Nhants on the Sunday aft for the final group game. The last game will either be for a QF or a home QF so all to play for.

Given the NRR any No Result should be enough too for QF purposes.

I wouldn’t say the aussies are boring tbh. I think the ashes calls for winning cricket first and foremost. We should have won the last match but now we are well up against it. Anyways bring on Wednesday
