Cricket Thread

England have been saved by the weather loads of times but sadly not this time.
Shame it ended like this but congrats to the Aussies

I would like to see a bonus point system like the County Championship so we eliminate a drawn series.
Yes it would probably work in Englands favour this time but there would be even more interest in the 5th Test.
Bonus points only come into play in the event of a drawn series. A bit like goal difference !

There's a cricket shaped hole in my sports watching summer now..

Ashes are now over, the F1 is rubbish these days and the only competive football on is the Women's World Cup which by most accounts hasn't warmed up yet.

It's why it's hard for some to get into test cricket or sell it to other countries.

It lasts how many days?
You can draw?
You don't finish it if the weather is bad?
In England even though it rains and is forecast to do so you start at 11 and have lunch even if you have been sat on your arse for hours?

It's certainly a quirky concept if you think about it.

Hypothetically can’t someone, with all the technology and engineering available in the world in 2023, design some sort of pop up roof that can go over a cricket ground?

It doesn’t need to be permanent at every ground, they just need to make one giant pop up gazebo type structure that the ECB can own and take it around to each ground England play at in key series.

No.

It'd cost more than the space program to design and assemble, disassemble something like that.

Congratulations to Australia. It has been an intriguing Ashes, albeit not a classic, with neither side at full strength and England appearing undercooked in the opening Tests. An England win at the Oval would probably leave a fairer impression in the history books of how evenly matched they have been.

I won't be congrtatulating them, for one thing the series isn't "won" yet, it's 1-2 with 1 to play.

They retain the ashes because we can't win the series now, but we can sure win the final game and draw it.
I’m with you @cleavers we need to thrash their backsides at the Oval. The Australian cricket team are bad sportsmen as far as I’m concerned! JMHO

They retain the Ashes so I can congratulate them on that, though I’m sure they will feel that they haven’t done themselves justice. It’s rather strange because I don’t think either side has. As I said, an England victory at the Oval would leave a fairer and more honest reflection of the series.

People keep saying it's been a "great" series, it's been entertaining yes, but "geat" ?

There has been some very poor batting from both sides for me, and far too much short pitched bowling too (though that was aided by poor batting choices).

Hey ho, onto The Oval.

Couldn't agree more.

Good idea, did I imagine it or was/is there something called the Brumbrella at Edgbastard? Just on way back soaked to the skin but strongbow was the winner today.

That was a flat cover that unrolled across the ground.
It's considered that it caused the pitch to deteriorate because there was no air to it.
It was immensely heavy to move due to the size.
It broke down and was taken out after a while
