Don't forget something. India were 33 for 3 at one point in their first innings. England were 202 for 2 in theirs. At both points, England could have taken control of this match, won it, or at least made a fight of it.
Over the years, I've seen England let the opposition off the hook like this over and over and over. it even happened with the great Australian teams of the nineties and early noughties. People tend to forget it. There were times, more than a few, when the Aussies were on the ropes. Then they would let them slip away, back would come the Aussies, and they would often win it.
I've thought a lot about why this happens, but I admit it puzzles me. Is there something too nice about English players? They have their foot on the neck of the opposition and then, stone me, they take it off? It really is a mystery to me.
