Yep. I don't care how much of a minefield that any given pitch is, 172 is a poor test score. You'd expect one of your top order to get a ton, then two or three more to chip in with 40+ scores, and the rest of the team to contribute 50 or 60 runs. 250, minimum should be what you're looking at.

The one thing I will say from the first day in the 1st test is England can still lose this test, so let's keep our feet on the ground and keep doing the hard work and let's hope our batsmen have learnt how to bat on this wicket

IF we can bat all day tomorrow that'll be a lead of 275-320. That'll be a very competitive score.

Don't forget almost a year to the day at Perth the Australia-India series the first day ended with 17 wickets and India then scored 450 in the second innings. The pitch was a proper green top today so on theory it should be easier from now on

I still think there's a lot of runs in this wicket if you get in. It was really apparent after about 20 overs the ball softened up a lot, that's when Head & Green put on their 40 in no time at all. England got through because they had Stokes to bring on with something different - Australia don't have the depth of bowling attack in this game to replicate that.

We need to respect Starc in the second innings. He's only going to bowl six or seven overs maximum in his first spell. Don't give him wickets with stupid shots, target the other bowlers, and get a big lead.
