Crime on the rise / is society f*cked?

We have a low crime rate in this country. Only 98th in the world out of 195 countries, and 148th in the world for our murder rate.

Without the internet and 24hr news programmes a few decades ago it might have seemed like times were safer and society was better, but crime has been higher in the past than than it is now.

Crime has also fallen since before the Coronavirus pandemic. Compared to April 2019-March 2020, there has been a 15% decrease in the last recorded year of April 2022-March 2023.

If we took ourselves off reading about crime on the internet and stopped watching 24hr news channels so much, I think our outlook on things would massively change. Society is no more fucked than it has been at any point since I’ve been conscious enough due to age to understand the world. Types of crimes are different (I had my identity stolen a few years back, something that never went on a century ago), but we’re no more likely to be a victim of crime than at any time in the last few decades.

Away from the internet, social media and news tv, out there in the real world in Great Britain, it is very pleasant with very nice people.

Only last night, as I was walking the short walk home from the Noel Gallagher gig at Wythenshawe Park, there was a group of five local people (four girls and a fella, all about mid-20s by the look of them) who were stood on the street as people were looking about a bit lost, on the maps on their phones and phoning for taxis; and this group were asking people if they needed any help and telling them how to get to the Met stop, the bus stop and which bus to get.

That won’t make the News, while naughty Nigel from Northenden who bashed his Nan over the head and took her purse probably will (I made that one up!).

Although, one thing that has changed for the worse is that everywhere is scruffy as fuck. Litter, fly tipping and grafitti is at an all-time high. There are more scruffy cunts about who have no pride in their appearance or the area they live in.

Keep your house outwardly scruffy and you avoid burglars. Much cheaper and effective than alarms.

I read the Greek historian Thucydides (c. 450BC) complaining about the youth of his day. Nothing changes.

When you have a gov who have systematically channelled wealth into their pockets and put people in a position of struggling to get by, some will act to sort that by other means. They steal £billions and get away with it. They keep getting voted in, but as usual the focus is diverted to lower level theft and like fucking morons, many are led by their nose away from the real criminals. You deliberately make people poorer when you get rich, something has to give. If you have children, are working hard snd still can’t make ends meet due to policies inflicted on us by greedy, corrupt, thieving lying vermin, you will do whatever it takes. We are turning people into criminals who would never be allowed if we had a country that wasn’t led by these selfish scum.

There is a direct correlation between poverty and crime. Create poverty deliberately, then don’t be shocked when crime increases. We have turned into a country of forelock tugging serfs who take the knee to their perceived betters. That’s the biggest crime in my book.

Echoes my thoughts.

It was awful compared to today. And in general civilisation is trending towards less crime overall.

Agreed I'm a scruffy ****..puts people off coming to close

The poor man had been dead a few days so this all seems slightly at odds with how the DM are reporting it. The dog was found literally across the road and if it had been in the house for 3 days or so would have been extremely distressed. I don’t think dog-napping was part of this. Poor again from a major newspaper.

Definitely not part of it
