Criticism of Pep

There are reasons which are to an extent outside the manager's control as to why we have slipped in the league this season.

Pep is the best. he may not be perfect.

Overall I think Pep's style of play is very beneficial for the club although we might at times suffer for it in one off games. I don't think it's true to say though that Pep is not able to make tactical changes for games.

I think you also need to look at the Spurs and Liverpool games as one offs. City weren't able to play as we normally do in the 1st leg at Spurs because of the league title fight so we played conservatively. Refereeing dominated both games and yet you are prepared to generalise from them?

Pep's record is outstanding at all his clubs.

You are trying to make a trend out of one seasons dip when injury to Laporte and other issues such as losing Kompany, winning two titles back to back, Silva and Fernandinho aging etc are all probably significant factors.

The best modern manager was Ferguson. He didn't win the title every season. You'd have fired him after his first failure to defend a title.
My only gripe with Pep is that he likes to over complicated and over think things, like against the Kult club in the chumps league when he decided to pick Gungodan on the right wing. No more funky team selections in Europe would be welcome for me.

I get it. You love Pep and have a poster of him on your bedroom wall. I couldn't care less about his feelings or his reputation. I just want City to be the best team in the world.

And, you beleive, it is Pep that is holding us back?

Just so i'm clear, sorry.

Painful as it is to point out the obvious, the best manager in the world at the moment is Jurgen Klopp.

We can only pray that Bayern, or the German national team, steal him from Liverpool (although if it's the former we can forget the UCL).

I tend not to be a 'sack the manager' type but Pep isn't going to stay much longer; if he was going to extend wouldn't he have done it by now?

I believe you have been sold the media mantra, "Win the CL or be a failure "

I want to watch the brilliant football I have seen since he arrived, I understand that you and others would rather play youth sides in the FA and League Cup, and perhaps not try now in the League if that maximises the chance of CL glory.
Pep is a competitor and winner, and would not do that. I believe he is a genius on the edge of madness probably.
As regards the owners, the media has sold you a kipper. What they want is to become a major player in World football over time. It is a long term investment, they do not care about the CL this year or next, that is small fry, they want to maximise returns over 50, 60 years. It is not a game for these people , rather a deadly serious business.

Some people still think a CL is the ultimate goal, it isnt.

Well said my feeling exactly on the subject.

When we win the CL and we will, we won't be highly thought of until we win the super cup and the laughingly named World Club Cup. When we win these they'll just revert back to dirty oil money and jibes. What we as a fan base need to do is start accepting that we can't force these sycophants to accept us because they never will, what we can do however is batter them in our own back yard.

Yes of course, I've been seduced by the media and am incapable of independent thought.

Thanks for the insight it will help me a great deal as I press on with my miserable existence holding the last opinion I was sold.

The UCL is the ultimate club competition and we need to win it.

Simple question and I am not goading bud.

How has the best manager in the world not won a single domestic trophy in 4 years? How does that work out?

Well as he (deservedly) took the credit for seasons 2017-18 and 2018-19 he can (again deservedly) take the blame for season 2019-20.

A season in which we have been humbled by Norwich City, amoung others, and as the calendar moves into February we are 19 points behind the league leaders.

I would be very confident of City beating any team in the world in a one off game under Pep, given a fair share of luck, injuries.

We dont yet seem to have cracked two leg football though. Not sure why. We seem to approach each leg as if its a stand alone game that we have to win. We over react when we concede. When United scored yesterday we played as if we were one down in the tie not 3-2 up.

Not sure if its a problem with the mentality of the players or at least partly down to Pep. He does seem to make strange selection decisions in these games, going back to the ultra attacking side he picked at Monaco.

So we should sack him ?

When Klopp was appointed Liverpool manager it was my worst nightmare, but he seemed to be failing and that was great, I breathed a sigh of relief.

Unfortunately for the last 2 years the nightmare seems to be coming true; look at their league record over that time period.
