Crystal Palace (A) | Post Match Thread

its just another day move on and we are still top with a point in hand. if it was 38 games played we would be champions so let the media say what they like. let them give liverpool points before they even play we still have to play them at our ground.

lady luck has a habit of doing things the hard way for us and a bad patch of games but we are still top.
just watch some of the highlights and its crazy that we spanked united last week and this when nothing was going to change the result we could still be playing now ?

but i want to highlight the thing that gets me mad ? cheating and faking injury to change the tempo
players going down and taking 3 minutes to get drinks and refuel for the whole team its cheating and needs to be stopped. it happened about 3 or 4 times last night and its always when we are on the front foot in the game and it kills the tempo and we lose momentum.

we are a fantastic club and fans
we are build on loyalty and love not glory
win or lose we know the dark dark days of nothing
wait till we play wolves you aint seen nothing yet, southampton have a player injured every game around the 60 minute mark for drinks n tactic talk

Passing my was awful from some, Cancelo gave the ball away numerous times (again) playing the wrong pass that was easily intercepted and broke down our attacking moments and put them on the counter.

Rodri was his usual shite self in the midfield with clumsy tackles, he just bundles players over and sloppy passing, KDB give him a gob full for a shocking pass and rightly so.

I thought Walker, Laporte and Cancelo looked sloppy at times in the first half.

Silva and Grealish occupied the same spaces far to often and far too rigidly. Silva is better tucked more inside and into the half space between their midfielders and defenders. Grealish just isn’t a wide attacking player. No pace, limited skill set. Foden and Grealish should swap positions more for me. But that’s peps call.

I’ve noticed recently we play a lot of hit and hope crosses. Rather than hitting a clinical decisive target in the box when we hit the bi-line. But then again, to often the clinical target in the box is what we are missing and that’s our biggest problem in games like this. It’s obvious to say but any decent striker scores last night.
Agreed, the passing was unusually sloppy last night. Could have been nerves or just one of house nights. Kev was outraged at that pass, never seen him do that before. Showed what the game meant to him and the lads. Disagree on Grealish skill set, will be an incredible player for us, this season he's working in crowded tight spaces on that left.
Also,I thought the players did well not to get sucked in to panic crosses. They knew we dont have height in there so we tried to get through the lines. Kev made one or to brilliant instinctive passes that nearly came off and that cross for Eric was perfect. The palace defender did well to put him off. They were so lucky but they earned it with an incredible effort.

Bang on.

Played on a shit surface. Mr Viera if the best you can come up with is to get your players to adopt shit house tactics (criminal time wasting without any yellows and feigned injuries to break up the flow of the game) please don’t send your CV to City if you’re thinking about a future coaching role.
That said we had enough chances to win comfortably on most days.
Anyway let’s move forward
P.s come on the Gunners!
Oh stop bleating just because we didn’t win. Viera’s job is the get CP points by any means necessary. He did his job.

I appreciate everything that Pep does for the club but there has to be a Plan B in matches like this when the other team puts 10 behind the ball on a small pitch. Similarly the players need a different mentality. 95th minute, last attack, a throw in on the left side, ball launched into the box, no one there to receive! Even clubs at the other end of the table would have thrown players forward.
Plan A works when you take your chances. Plan B wouldn’t work either with finishing like that.

Has it though? I don't think it has.

We have either chased from a fair bit behind, to edge forward and see it out (three times)

Or we have raced ahead and watched others collapse and their challenge fall apart (two times).

We have not really ever been in the position of being seemingly comfortably in front so long to gradually lose momentum while someone closes down incrementally. Completely different dynamic, and it will test the team, 100%. Particularly the game agains them at ours.

Bring it on.

People forget in 2012 we were comfortable until we were not and then we had to chase it again.

You're wasting your time with these people, Bobby. Let them rant and rave and talk bullshit for the next few hours. It happens every time we drop points because a high percentage of football fans don't know anything about football.

I know that after nearly 50 straight years as a City seasons ticket holder that I still have much to learn about the technical side of the game and that I could never be in the same headspace as someone like Pep.

I do believe I know enough to be able to keep repeating that too many of our supporters lack perspective.

Pep obviously manages his public pronouncements but when he says the team played well last night, I am sure he means it. We didn't take our chances, and that - as he said - happens in football; especially when you play so many matches without out and out strikers.

He trusts the process and with good reason: if City stick to it, they will win far more games than they lose (or draw).

I would have had Gundo on for the final 30 for sure - much quicker tempo of passes and capable of scoring

i thought Grealish was abysmal until the last 10-15 after which he improved - I’d have hooked him - put Foden on the left and Gabby in the middle (iirc Gabby scored away at palace last year with a poachers goal)
Grealish can be good to pull people in, but it's only useful if the other guys are using the space and taking their chances. Foden found hardly any space and Mahrez was a bit unlucky, that's why Grealish' spot was wasted for most of the game.
