Crystal Palace (H) - Post-Match Thread

Pep doesn't seem that arsed about the result in his post match interview. Everything must be fine and dandy down at the training complex.

Our last three home results against teams we should beat out of sight have been underwhelming , and yet when we have played teams who are near our level we have dominated them , which leads me to believe we are becoming complacent against the lesser team. Palace,Burnley and Saints at home was nine points last season and a hatful of goals , this season three points and just two goals.
Its not helped that two of our stalwarts in Raheem & KDB are totally out of form , these two are the type of players that punish teams , ive no doubt we will raise our game against Bruges & the Rags , i am more worried about Everton at home the week after.

The Foden / Grealish dynamic is a concern for me.

Foden had the left wing position completely tied down last season, played brilliantly all season, was a real attacking threat and won a number of games on his own.

We then sign Grealish with money that could have been used on a proper striker, and so far we’ve hobbled him by asking to stick out wide and play a very distinct, disciplined role. This has meant Foden playing in the middle, where I think he’s a bit more inconsistent.

Early days but it doesn’t look quite right to me.
We are just not balanced upfront, or in defence!

Poor game today, it happens every now and then. Looking forward to see how it all pans out. Pretty sure we'll be in with a shout of winning the league again.

He's terrified of taking an actual shot or trying to knick it past a defender. The amount of times he will square up and then just settle for a smash into the defender's shins for a corner is appalling.
He also seems far too eager to go to ground to try and win free kicks than trying to go past a defender. Draws opposition players to him which on occasions is helpful as he can then release team mates into areas where they have space to exploit but too often slows the play down with too many touches allowing defences to regroup and get organised. Needs to vary his play more, take more risks and start affecting games where it matters.

Then we were toothless upfront against Chelsea in the CL final and toothless against Leicester in the CS. It was plane for all to see we needed a focal point in our attack. I like Grealish but to put another midfielder before a centre forward was not a wise move in my book. I could be proved wrong but I doubt it.
A cdm is what messed us up on the final. Midfield was way too open. Nothing to do with a lack of striker

Not good enough that.

We can’t just rely on Rodri and Bernardo to play well and win the game for us every week… Cancelo Laporte deBruyne Grealish Foden were simply nowhere near good enough, and the same ones who played against Burnley were all just as bad that day (Grealish didn’t play that one but has also been average as it gets in other games).

These midtable teams are far too good now to play so poorly and expect to win. We got away with it with Burnley but we were just as poor against them as we were Southampton and today.
