Crystal Palace (H) - Post-Match Thread

Not in my opinion, we shouldn’t be starting either of Kev or Gundo at the moment, we need what pace and energy we have to be on the pitch - front 5 should be Phil, Grealish, Bernie, Jesus and Mahrez.

We have enough pace in the rest of the team imo, neither Phil or Grealish have enough experience in centre midfield and we would be a bit light if we played them there, against stronger more aggressive midfielders we could come unstuck.

Also gives Bernardo more passing options and allows him to play a bit further up when Gundogan dops in alongside Rodri.

Missing a striker obviously, as others have said. Someone to offer a penalty box presence/aerial threat and poaching ability.

Also could do with drive in centre midfield. A Yaya type of player, somebody to take the game by the scruff of the neck and even bully the opposition's midfielders. We haven't really had that since he stopped playing regularly.

We have players that offer different type of "drive" from midfield, Kevin's runs on the counter, Phil's direct running and Gundo's frank Lampard like ability of drifting into the box during a slow build-up and scoring. But we still don't have anyone with the physicality or that has all of what Yaya had.

And both are the types of player that Pep is unlikely to buy or pick to start regularly.
nail on the head, oh for a dzeko and yaya today

Sorry but that’s nonsense pal. The red card and the offside were hard to take but they were the correct calls. We did that to ourselves today

Don’t know could gone either way but with it being city it is always there worse way.

Once we went one nil down the referee was loving it smirking when Silva kept point out that there goalie was taking ages over his kicks! Giving us next to fuck all all game but we now except this as fans and the players pep do now also!

Half arsed, complacent and sloppy from the start. Misplaced passes and unforced errors. And usually when this lot start a game like that, it only ends one way.
The apparent inability of manager or players to turn round a deficit, especially when losing at half time, is something that is rarely discussed but should be.
Defeat next week is unacceptable. Time for the manager and the players alike to earn their money. An attitude like that first half today cannot stand
Pep’s stats for coming back from a losing position, are bang-average at best. You can almost guarantee that when the game starts bad, it ends bad!

We won't be signing anyone in January mate, infact I'm not even sure we'll sign a striker next summer. Doesn't seem to be a desperate need for one from the top brass at City
I think the top brass have got complacent on the football side of things - They're probably more interested in attracting sponsors, advertisers, etc rather than players.

To be honest, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Txiki goes back for Kane in January, hoping to get him 'on the cheap' - Especially now he's effectively downed tools at Spurs.

We've got too many players approaching their sell-by dates, and not enough talent coming through the EDS. If we don't make a few 'marquee' signings over the next two windows, we're at risk of falling out of the top 4... Just in time for Pep to leave.

Seething at the stupidity of that defeat. Yet again the only team that can beat us is ourselves.

What it did demonstrate today is that blaming Pep if we lose when he doesn't pick our best side is too simplistic a criticism. That was a very strong team, even with a KDB that is making strenuous efforts to avoid becoming the world's best player.

Ironically Laporte had comfortably the best pass completion stats in the match but two horrid errors cost us the game.

I've said it several times and it has cost us but the offside rule under VAR is a joke. Only saw the VAR view of Foden fleetingly at the match but to be given offside in that position is ridiculous. Even more ridiculous was Mariner waiting so long to book their keeper. Also, wondered if Foden had a good claim for a pen?
I would start Stefan in next few games...

They might have been the correct calls but even Sky seem to think that the 'goal scoring opportunity' was quite a way out. But correct or not, would you bet on those two decisions going our way up t'other end of the pitch. I think not!

Aside from the ref also sticking it to us, we were our own worst enemy.

Laporte started as he meant to go on, which thankfully means Stones will now come back in to the fold.

No use keeping the pitch wide if you don't have anyone in the middle or at top to make it work today.

Palace forced us to play the extra pass out wide and doubled up on being aggressive on Jesus and Phil.

Cancelo and Walker were poor, as was Grealish, who seemingly wants to play safe and has had all spotenitity removed by Pep's demands.

We have a paint my numbers system, so it only needs to go a man down and the whole thing falls apart.

Pissed off with the decisions against us and thought it strange Pep waited five minutes to introduce Stones.

Jesus was our best player and felt we needed to try and get him and Bernie all the ball more in second half to try and at least commit Palace a bit more.

Eddie was ropey for the goal, as it was a scuffed shot.

We move on, Liverpool dropping points today was also a surprise and pressure now on with United to come.
My biggest gripe today was we were bullied by Zaha, Walker never got through the lines he never over lapped it was stinking, Laporte just fucking embarrassing the goal & again bullied for the red card

Zaha had about 5 City players in his pocket & then Eddy why come running out getting involved he should concentrate on trying to save something he never looks like doing very poor imo
Lastly if we are picking players on merit & how well they are playing then tell me why is Kev starting???? He had a shocker today & not his 1st.

Love the guy but seriously he needs a fucking kick up the arse

Fair comment mate.

I suspect that the ref and VAR officials took into account Ederson's position and Zaha's 'reputation' for pace in relation to the chasing defenders. It was very likely that he would have had the upper hand in a one on one with Ederson.

It's entirely likely that VAR would have taken a different view had it been Raheem Sterling in a one on one with anybody.

That game today was very frustrating to say the least. You know by the City the first 10-15 minutes of every game what way the game is going to go and had the writing on the wall that we wouldn't score a goal today very similar to West Ham away, Southampton at home ect
Players weren't up to it today I was expecting a performance with the main players coming back into the side but just didn't happen. Too many players to name that under performed.
Few things other than the performance that wound me up today in particular,

Laporte both sloppy mistakes.
Opportunities to get a shot away but taking an extra pass (AGAIN).
Andre Marriner!
Foden wonderful ball across the goal which three players stood looking at and never made an effort to get a tap in.

Shit Saturday all around to be fair with the Rags winning too...Plus the missus is going my nut in, Heading for a few pints now and with the way today is going they'll taste like piss.

I left 2 minutes into stoppage time today.
first time I’ve left early for a long long while.
it wasn’t because of life, it was because of my health.
I was getting more and more wound up so thought it better I leave.

At 2-0 down, only ten men we were never going to pull it back

People love to over analyse everything. We’ve been brilliant up until this game. We made mistakes and we got punished simple as that. Key players didn’t turn up and hopefully Delap will get a run in the team when he’s fit
