Cyclists

Charlie Alliston jailed for 18 months today for knocking over and killing Kim Briggs, Alliston was riding an illegal bike with no front brakes and ploughed into Ms Briggs who was crossing the road
Bit lenient, thought he would have got a few years
two years max sentence for the "furious driving" 19th century crime he was convicted of

It is the disparity in sentencing that winds me up. If he'd have been driving a car with no front brakes, I am fairly certain he'd be facing a much longer sentence.

I've absolutely no time for dangerous road users; cars/motorcycles/Cyclists/pedestrians. Pedestrians, Cyclists and Motorcyclists have the most to loose, but some car/van/lorry drivers seem to think they are okay to behave as they like because they are protected by their Euro-NCAP 6* tin bubble.
It's the arrogance of the lad that has pissed me off as well, he claimed she had her head down trawling her iphone and was oblivious to everything, even if this was true it's still no excuse to be bombing along at nearly 20mph on a dangerous illegal bike in a built up area, and i'm a cyclist

I am too. This lad is clearly a prick of the highest order

It's high time that all who use our road networks are compulsaraly insured.
Cyclists horse and carts solo horses disabled buggies all to carry public liability or third party as an absolute minimum.

Children that use the road networks to be insured on a child friendly policy that rewards with heavy discount those that have taken a proficiency test as adopted in the sixties.
In short accountability for all. This ain't no playground.

He was a twunt of the highest order and I am happy he got sentenced heavily.
Twunts are generally far less dangerous on cycles than cars and the roads would be a safer place with more cyclists and fewer cars.

Good luck with solo horse riders, a law unto themselves

A lot of my mates are keen cyclists, the sort who have bikes worth more than my house, wear all the clobber and go on 100 mile rides up vertical hills that mountain goats would struggle with.

I estimate that a good 90% of them have had a serious accident in which they've broken bones, the majority of which weren't their fault. They tend to be really careful with the bikes being so valuable, it's the knobs with bicycle clips in shirts and pants riding womens folding bikes who tend to jump traffic light, nip on the pavement, ride in the centre of the road and all round ignore the highway code.

On the school run I saw one bloke actually ride straight through a zebra crossing whilst the lollipop man was stood in the middle seeing the kids across the road. One parent, who's child was nearly taken out took particular umbrage and chased the clown before performing a clothes line manoeuvre that the Undertaker would have been proud of. The parent had to be restrained but the self righteous dick on the Raleigh Shopper didn't think he'd done anything wrong. Despite the uproar he was threatening to call the old bill until the lollipop man got involved and pointed out he was lucky he'd not had a good twatting.

This may differ in the cities but where I live there are lots of narrow rural roads with no cycle paths and a national speed limit, but this doesn't stop cyclists from doing their thing. I have seen numerous incidents where they have nearly caused a nasty collision, mainly on an uphill stretch where they're going slow and a car pulls out to overtake, only for another car to come racing down the hill in the other direction. I don't know the stats but I imagine lots of accidents are caused this way.

My question is this - should cyclists be allowed on the roads or are they too much of a hazard to motorists and themselves?

I love cycling but I would never do it on the open road, only ever on cycle paths which are sadly lacking round here.

I much prefer cycle paths, naturally, but when you go on the road you have as much entitlement to space as needed as motorists do. The vast, and I mean the vast majority of motorists are splendid folk and it's a privilege to share a road with them, but there are too many knobs even if they are in the tiniest of minorities. And who was that tosser who got banned today for supping over the odds?

Then we shall seize them crush them and ship them to the maggot farm.
And the horses shall go into microwave TV dinners.
You use our road network then you pass a competancy test.
Amen brother:
