We're signing De Gea?

I think I speak for many of us here; What the f*** are people actually talking about when they say, the pivot?

I think it's a reasonable question, mate.

I'd heard the word before, but it was only after reading Pep Confidential and the fact it's used about 20,000 times that I became overly familiar with the phrase.

The UK football media have been using the phrase "sits in front of the back 4" for years. We all know the area of the field they're talking about.

Now as this position has become more prevalant over the last few years, the position has evolved 2 distinct types of players who play there.

You've got the tacklers, the destroyers, I'd call them "Defensive midfielders". Players like De Jong, Fernando, Makelele.

Then you've got the ball players who sit in there and dictate play who might not be the best tacklers or most aggressive players kn the world - Yaya last season, Xabi Alonso, Pirlo, Scholes in his last few years, Busquets. This second bunch are "Pivots".

I'm not particularly enamoured with the term, but I don't know a better one. I'm sure you appreciate the technical differences between the two types of players and if you've got a handy phrase for them, I'd be happy to hear it.

Sounds like today's music.... so many bloody names and types.

So a 'destroyer' can tackle but not pass.... and a 'pivot' can pass but not tackle.'....... So maybe we should buy a top class midfielder who can do both, instead of half a player?

so as I said .when good/great midfielders get to the end of their careers and cannit run, they become pivots.

Wait....Err....what fuckin' thread is this now?

In a nutshell...

A few yanky doodles and Fifa players who have never kicked a ball in their lives have read a book by our illustrious leader, no, not Ric, the other one, and now spout bollocks all over transfer threads thus trying to appear knowledgeable about the beautiful game when in fact they know jack shit.

I think.

Jack shit, a right back; sorry wing back, who could get round the pitch.
Not on the same level as Danni alves though.
Should be thread about that fellah.

How the fuck are we still hopeful? The man has no club right now. This should be the easiest fuckin deal of all.

^^ It says hopeful we will sign Alves within the next few days, which would strongly indicate that he's ours.

Is there any possibility Barca would try and get him back? Neymar holidaying with Alves as we speak. Or should our eyes be on our club bidding for Neymar (with the intention of not getting him this summer, but in the next)?

I'm sure the possibility exists but the board would not come back with their tail between legs to resign him after what has been said publicly. Neymar & Alves are like brothers, that's just them enjoying the offseason
