Watched Arsenal v Ipswich tonight. First half, Arsenal encountered the same issue we always face, packed and determined defence. They struggled to create, like we do at the moment.

Difference was, when they lost the ball they swarmed all over Ipswich, gave them no time or options, and won the ball back.

Like we used to do.

Main difference to me, was almost all the Arsenal players are probably 23-28 years old. Ours are either younger than that, or older than that. Not got the legs for closing down the way Arsenal did tonight.
Exactly this . This is how Man City Women play . The drop off in the mens team is obvious when you watch both teams ....High press , swarm of bees if ball is lost and quick recovery of the ball or sabotage opposition transition. We need younger, fitter players. Sterling was worth his weight in gold doing this , KDB box to box with bite, Bernardo buzzing , Rodri / Fernandinho stepping in if system breached ..The slow build up is to get everyone into position to trigger this tactic , should we loose the ball, except , now , we can't do it effectively .

The other primary asset was Walkers pace - he was usually quick enough to head off a quick counter attack but not anymore.

He would not be free, wages, fees etc
That is also still there for any deal where we have to pay usually a big fee on top of it as well. I think it's a bargain under these circumstances. He is well proven and can make an immediate impact, IMO.

Spot on.

Look at the age profile of our squad:

Walker 34, Gundagon 34, KDB 33, Ortega 32, Ederson 31, Bernardo 30, Kovacic 30, Stones 30, Ake 29, Akanji 29, Grealish 29.

Then at the opposite end we have:

O'Reilly 19, Simpson-Pusey 19, Wright 19, Savinho 20, Lewis 20, Bobb 21, Doku 22, McAtee 22.

The only players in the sweet spot are:

Foden 24, Haaland 24, Nunes 26, Dias 27, Rodri 28.

Arguably 4 of our most important sit within that 23-28 age bracket aswell. It's a very imbalanced squad , and I think there's going to be some big changes over the next 2-3 seasons as most of those in the higher age bracket leave. Feels like the 115 verdict could be a seminal moment for us and could influence what we do in the market, but City need to make a statement signing at some point and sign 4 or 5 players that are the right fit for us and immediately improve our starting 11.
