Daniel Agger (continued)

At 27 million it would be a mistake to sign Agger. His value to Liverpool has nothing to do with it, his real value to us is not more than 20 million if he played first team football, as a cover player his value is 15 million tops.

Why we didn't go all out to sign Martinez who could cover CB and CM at the start of the transfer window I'll never understand, even if we had to pay 35mill for him we'd have been better off.

I hope we leave it rather than be held to ransom.

Obviously it all changes if the player wants to agitate for a move but I'm not sure there are many signs of that happening. As it stands, Liverpool probably don't need or want to sell so they can certainly justify adding any sell on clause money to his asking price imo. For what it's worth, I don't think he is worth anything over 20 million but if we want him enough we will pay it, I suppose.

Doesn't need to agitate for a move. Unless he is prepared to sign a new contract his worth to Liverpool drops by millions every transfer window they don't sell him.

He's got two years left on his contract, I doubt they are going to panic into selling him cheaper than they want to this summer, maybe in January if he won't sign a new contract but I don't get the feeling that will be an issue, personally.

No guarantee we (or anyone else) will be interested in a mid season purchase, and he'll be worth about half the price this time next year.

So hardly a panic to sell a 27 year old with 119 league appearances in 7 years for close to £20m.

27m is too much for an injury prone player, we can get hummels for 27 millions
How do you know Dortmund won't bump his valuation up?

i dont know but i think 27m is a lot of money we can get better, i dont think hummels would cost close to 40m if he was interested in a move to premier league

I'm not saying it would be a panic to sell him for 20 million and I'm not saying they won't sell him for 20 million. They may well do if they get Joe Allen from Swansea. This conversation started off with you saying "why should we pay Liverpool's resale clause" and I'm just making the point that if they don't want to sell then they can ask what they want for him and could easily justify adding 3 million on to his asking price if they have to pay off a sell on clause. In fact they don't even have to justify it at all. He is their player, he is under contract for a further two years and they can ask for 100 million if they want, although obviously they wouldn't get it.
