Can imagine the fee will be £20m but not convinced Agger wants to join us, maybe the money will talk in the end.

I think this 'lack of desire to leave' is absolute tosh (put out by his agent & LFC). However, it is true that Scandinavians do get irrationally attached to their UK clubs, and Agger has been with LFC for a few years now.

That said, he isn't Gerrard or Carragher, and he is running out of years to win stuff (and has no prospect of playing in the CL again any time soon).

He's won a Danish League title, a Danish Cup, and FA Cup & a League Cup and probably will want to win more.

Now if he's half intelligent he'll see that - like it or not - any turnaround at LFC isn't going to happen before he retires, so I'd bank on him signing if it was up to him. What LFC have to say about that - on the other hand - is another thing.

Does this rule mean anything? From the official champs league player eligibility rules

18.07 As a rule, a player may not play in a UEFA club competition (i.e. UEFA
Champions League and UEFA Europa League, but not UEFA Super Cup) for
more than one club in the course of the same season. Exceptionally,
however, a player who has been fielded in the first, second or third qualifying
round of the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League is entitled to
play in the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League for another
club as from the group stage, provided that his former club did not qualify for
the group stage of either the UEFA Champions League or the UEFA Europa
League;

I think this basically says it all. Surely, Mancini wanted to sign Agger in order to be able to include him in the group stage of the Champions League?! Liverpool are highly likely to qualify for the group stage of the Europa League, therefore Agger will not be able to play for City in the Champions League until the knock-out stage in February. Not good. My opinion is they now move on, and try and signed a defender who can play in the group stage. Bonucci or Chiellini, anyone?!

I think pointing this out is most unhelpful

The fact they played him speaks volumes. He ain't coming and talk of a fee being announced on SSN today is pure bullshine. I shall of course apologise humbly to VVK if this is not the case though!

Dont know the cup-tied thing but the Forlan case seems the the same thing.

It could be a big mistake by Liverpool maybe they didnt know hey make him cup tied if they play in an early EL match. Now it goes to City's side to make sure they know about this rule and offer lower money because of it. I we fans here and twitter know this and the clubs don't know it then wtf really.

Or it could be a deliberate mistake by Rodgers he wants Agger to stay maybe the owners want to sell him, and he played him and will say ohhh he had no idea he cant play Agger. It's not very possible but who knows.:)

The rule you put in says if Pool will be in the group stage of EL any of their players who played in the qualifiers cannot play in the group stages of EL or CL. It makes no difference that Pool is EL and City in CL.
