£25M?!
Ridiculous. Stupid. Preposterous.
None of that means we wouldn't, just describes my own feelings on it. He has virtually NO resale value and will walk away at the end of a 4 yr deal on a free, with all the money going into his own pocket.
There is a sliding scale between age and fee. Agger is at the cheap end of that scale that would require him to be absolutely world class to be anywhere close to £25M. He is not, by ANYONE'S measure.
Throw in about £5M in wages and he becomes an aging, fragile centre half costing £45M?!!
It is a silly joke for anyone with ANY business sense.
£25M fees should be reserved for people who CHANGE GAMES....goal scorers and creative midfielders. I think it is widely acknowledged that £22M was excessive for Lescott. WE are not that team anymore, nor should we allow ourselves to be treated that way.
RVP @ £25M? If he makes the difference between winning the league and not, he MIGHT be worth it to some teams. Agger @ £25M? For a defender who will not simply walk into the team? Nonsensical!
How ridiculous would it seem to have a back three of Kompany, Agger and Lescott, with VK @£6M, DA @ £25M, and JL @ £22M? VK worth 1/4 of EITHER of the others?!!!
And, £53M of defenders with the world's best 'keeper behind them.........costing £500K!
We are no longer the bitches of the transfer market. If someone does not want to come here, fuck 'em and move on. Maybe that attitude is better to learn upfront, instead of a season or two in. London, Paris, Milan, Barca, Madrid, etc...will ALWAYS be more attractive to the top players (AND THEIR FAMILIES!) than Manchester, as long as those teams are in the CL every year and able to pay top tier wages.
Sure, players have come to Manchester to play for United, but until we are able to stay at the top for at least a few years on the run, and get deep into the CL, Manchester and Man City will always be able to be set to one side.
THAT is why Mansour is building a foundation for the future. His investment only pays off with CONTINUED IMPROVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE, and he is unwilling to pay £100M in transfer fees every year, because it can NEVER pay off.
Is Suarez the next Silva? We hope so! Razak the next Yaya? Rekik the next Joleon? SOMEONE has to take their place over time, and throwing £100M at it every year is not the way forward.
So, Agger @ £25M is everything Mansour does NOT want to happen here at City....and I am with him.
