I saw the game. In all honesty England didnt deserve to win. We weren't the better side and we "hung on" (similar to Chelsea against Barca this year). JL did some great last ditch tackling. I dont want to knock JL, I love the guy. However being objective his distribution can be below standard and, although he has improved, he is not confident in possession.

Well sack it off then. If Barca want someone they get them. Also Agger would surely choose them and Liverpool would prefer to sell to them.

There is one thing I am sure about, that Agger is more comfortable with the ball than Lescott, but is he better on the air ? Is he better defender ? I am not sure !

A back 3 of Agger, Kompany and Lescott would take some beating though ;).

And I think that's what we would see quite often. If it does happen, I would think we would need to rotate at least one of the positions every other game or so as well to keep everyone fresh (not my favorite idea but practical) and that would mean hopefully holding on to Kolo.hgblue said:Mancio said:lescott is one of the world best defenders in the box , imo.

I have to disagree. Lescott is a good passer for a CB, better than Kompany in my opinion.

I'm a big Lescott fan but there's no way his distribution is anywhere near Kompanys level. What Joleon has learnt over the last year or so is to keep it really simple. He does that really well now. But there's a drive about Kompany and a dynamism to his passing which JL cannot match.

So Dave is absolutely correct.
Sometimes that's our best option when under pressure. Funny how people see things. I think Lescott is all round a better player than Kompany, and Tevez is all round better than Aguero and Kolorov is better than Clichy and Yaya is better up front than Silva. Most would disagree but our squad is so good it's a question of degrees.
I'd love to get Agger in and allow Savic to go out on loan. He think he wild be worth 20m to us. It'd be a better 20m spent than spending it on RvP.

Agger is a great buy for 3-18 mil. a good footballing centre half rather than a stopper in Skrtel.
IMO it doesnt mean we will be choosing to drop lescott. if you look at pre season, maybe we could be looking at starting 3 centre halfs instead of a back 4, which is why Agger seems a better buy than Skrtel to me.

I'm amazed that so many people are worried about having three reliable central defenders when many top clubs do (ie. Pepe, Ramos, Carvalho, Albiol, Varane at Real Madrid). And we have four top class strikers, yet only two top class central defenders. If Kompany went down injured tomorrow for the season, which partnership would inspire most confidence in you - Lescott and Agger or Lescott and Kolo?
