Daniel Sturridge - FACTS

He's not worth that much. But he's not worth booing either. If he wants to sign a realistic contract and knuckle down and try and prove that he can fulfill some of his undoubted potential as our 4/5th choice striker then fair enough. I won't lose sleep if he leaves. But I won't boo him in the meantime and will continue to support him in the shirt if he stays.

Ok lets deal in hard base facts here, not some rumours you have heard in the news of the world or by your mate who knows the cleaner at Carrington who swears that Sturridge is "demanding" 60k, 75k, 95k, 660k a week. Lets have a look at the facts that can be backed up as stone cold TRUTH and the most important thing, what he does on the pitch.

Here we have a talented young striker who has been in and out of the side all season, he has been fucked over by injuries and been fucked over by Mark Hughes because he continues to play one man upfront which is hard enough but he has also played Ched Evans and Big Phil ahead of him.

Here we have a 19 year old kid who has only started 8 games, his total minutes are 90, 90, 90, 90, 90, 77, 70, 62, 60, 48, 33, 32, 26, 21, 19, 14, 14, 14, 9, 7, 6, 6, 6, 5, 2. In total he has played 981 mins. That's just under 11 full games.

In them games he has played he has scored 4 goals and assisted 5 goals, being involved in 9 goals. So that's being involved in more or less a goal every game he played in total minutes.

Not bad for a fucking 19 year old who has had injury problems and been fucked about, not to mention playing upfront on his own when probably only a dozen players in the world of football are half decent at it.

Yes he's cocky and arrogant but he has a right to be, he is a good player and he beleives in himself. I love my players to be cocky and arrogant, it's a certain side i love about players but only if they can back it up and Danny can do that when given a chance.

So if you want to ruin yet another promising kid because of some stories going round that no one has a fucking clue about then do so if it makes you feel better.

The treatment of him today by the fans was nothing short of disgraceful, yes he had a poor game but he was a nervous wreck because of 40,000 clueless twats getting on his back at the very first sign of a mistake, a mistake that every player makes in the world.

I'm glad he didn't celebrate the goal because neither would i with what went on.

You all tried to do it with Stephen Ireland, you ruined that kids confidence and self belief and you have all been made to look like silly twats over him. Get off Sturridge's back, you don't realise what a good young player we have on our hands, you only have to look at the stats and the circumstances this season to prove it.
Spot on - the lad is going to be a star. Hope it's with us.

Bluenonblue: Can you give us a hint on the actual figure? As I mentioned earlier, and I think most would agree, if Danny wants a deal comparable to those that the other academy grads got at this stage of their development that sounds fine. And I think a staged deal which aniticpates a rise to the level that Micah or Johnson are now on when he's established himself as a regular starter would make sense.

Johnson has also been the victim of some outragious smears, while coincidently any player who has a run in with Hughes or his staff is likely to see some form of suggestion in the media on lack of effort or loyalty.

Briefing against the players is unpleasant - shame if it is officially sanctioned. The Liverpool reserve gk story this week reminded me of the story about Ronaldo twice interrupting a Munich anniversary event to tell Shrek they were supposed to be going shopping! Shrek was speaking to a room full of journos but the story didn't come out until months later when Ronaldo was possibly going to leave the club. I've not seen it mentioned this week so perhaps it's been locked away again in the vaults. Don't you love journalists :)

Not too disimilar to what goes on here on the forum. If you say anything against Mark Hughes or his methods you get accused of disloyalty or wanting the team to lose ! i can't be arsed with it anymore, even when you argue reasonable points you get jumped on. i've decided it aint worth opening your gob anymore, just let hughes get on with it and let the performances and results speak for themselves.
i'm sure Danny will be happy at Villa or wherever he decides to go and i'm sure he'll do great. i'm also sorry that he feels he might have to leave our club but after the abuse he got yesterday i'd want out aswell.

your facts sort of suggest why he isnt that good

over the season he has been playing less and less.....which suggests that he is playing half as well as he was.....yet Caicedo has been playing more......Hughes must see something..but it suggests Sturridge has an attitude problm

Or maybe Hughes has got it wrong? Just a thought.

Totally agree with OP.

"but saying that he is 19 and probably being advisd by other parties trying to cash in on his potential, hope he see's sense and gets his head down and let his feet do the talking. he wont get a better opportunity to earn good dough and play first team football, i can understand the frustration fans have with him."

Iseorgeg, He has done just that since he turned down a hell of a lot more money as a 16 yo from Chelski, the situation never needed him to see sense because none of this is of his making, there were no other parties trying to cash in because he was happy at the club........now can you understand his frustration at the way things have been portrayed, he was backed into a corner with a take it or leave it offer of half of what other players were given, and then the subject of those stories.

The basic contract was 22k up to 32k with apperance, win, league possition, and goals bonus,

Sorry, to make it clear, the basic contract offer was what other players who graduated the accademy received.

Danny was told the manager wasn`t sure about him and was offered half of that,
