Danny Murphy's man of the match!

LOL all he did was honor a young player who did well for the expected losing side. I don't see what the problem is.

How about : that's not his job & it's unfair, unless other commentators follow the same routine when other teams are playing otherwise it shows a total lack of respct for our club & players, by comparison ?

If it's Liverpool playing 3 years ago, which player gets the award from Murphy, the Huddersfield kid, or Steve Gerrard ?

He wasn't close to being deserving of the award? There's no precedent for a player only being on the pitch for an hour, getting walloped 5-1 and getting MOTM? Danny Murphy doesn't know his arsenal from his elbow? The BBC being a disgrace when it comes to all things City over the last couple of years? Other than that, LOL, nothing wrong at all.

I find him to be one of the better co-commentators. He knows his stuff, he articulates it well and doesn't get all hyperbolic and reactionary like most of the others do. He always seems pretty fair, too; I don't think you'd know which clubs he had played for if you'd only ever listened to his commentary.

His MOTM award was a bit weird, but I really can't see why it matters. As long has he continues to offer a former professional's insight into football matches, I couldn't give a shit who he hands a meaningless award to (pretty sure the players don't give a toss).

He made a weird decision and a couple of errors the other night, but I don't think that really warrants a bashing or accusations of a biased agenda. A lot of phoney outrage here, I feel.

fwiw seemingly against the precedent of our increasingly precious fanbase. I completely agree

There are far bigger, uglier, more venomous and less intelligent fish among the journo's, commentators, summarisers and pundits to fry than Danny Murphy, and indeed far more important topics to get upset about than a man of the match whatever the circumstances of that award. There's another Danny for a start, and there's the misuse of social media to belittle one of our fans. I've already mentioned on this topic but at least to me, getting all outraged about a bloody motm portrays us as a bunch of whinging cry babies, and lessens the impact when we actually have something proper to complain about.

A tad aggressive in reply to my point there.
That's not what I said. Why not let the underdog have a bit of recognition in a game they were not expected to win and where one of their youngsters held his own against world class opposition?

One of our youngsters, Garcia, shone and held his own he should have got it going off your criteria.

It all depends on the game...

City, collectively were decent on the night without being spectacular(sterling had one or two moments), but the young lad who won MOTM was really very good and stood out. They may have lost the game but you cant hold that against a single player who's had a great game...he was playing alongside the likes of dean whitehead for christs sake, as a stoke fan i know what that entails.

I mean i comment to my old man virtually every game on how its so obviously biased against city, some of the ref decisions have been appalling(sideshow bobs let off for chelsea standing out the most among a sea of bent decisions), particularly this season, but as for that pick of motm...no, no consipracy, no unfairness, just showing the respect you mention for the little guy who had a great game and had just been knocked out...a player who probably wont get another mention at this level for the rest of the year.

I agree with the part about "if it was gerrard" etc, but at the same time don't think it makes the choice on the night a bad one...because murphy is a scouser, and no scouse team was involved between city and huddersfield.

Or, far more simply some of us felt the award was a bit of a joke and it makes for a discussion on a forum dedicated to just that.
The two aren't mutually exclusive. We can discuss the decision made and still hold back our real irk for the important stuff.

He also claimed most of our goals were offside or werent penalties etc.

He came across as a kid not getting his way.

He's a **** no doubt, but i actually didnt think he was bad the other night...he claimed that city should have had penalties etc.

As a guy a little more neutral though, maybe i don't sit listening for anything that can be construed a certain way. There are a swathe of commentators who's backgrounds are at odds with their professional integrity as unbias commentary people, but i guess that cannot be helped. There are too many ex liverpool, UTD, arsenal players on the commentary teams unfortunately...but this is to be expected as they were the dominant teams in quite recent times.

Things will eventually change.
