Dave Watson has neurodegenerative disease

Dave has been a Facebook friend of mine for a few years and a nice bloke who still clearly loves city and Sunderland.
 
This is terrible news, puts everything into perspective. When I was young I remember seeing him in the park with his kids & my dad told him we were blues. I was awestruck as he shook my hand.

When the story of our great club is finally written men like Dave Watson are the lead-role players, the man was a legend whilst still playing,the perfect centre half. Some would call him an old-tme stopper but there was much more to him than that,a fabulous footballer and a huge stitch in the tapestry of our wonderful club.Looking way into the future his name will be writ large in the pantheon of our story.Best wishes to you and your family big fella.

Very sad, and this PFA seems to find excuses for everything rather than actually helping. His condition is a dreadful one though, I've experienced seeing it at first hand and it's worse than anything, poor bloke.

The pfa is a joke. Its members should be knocking on its doors demanding it treats it members and ex members better.
I hope Dave and his family get the support they need soon.
 
As has been said one of the best two centre halves to have played for the club in the last 50 years. I remember him heading a ball for England that went half the length of the pitch almost to the byline for keegan to chase, and cut back. I can’t remember who scored. But what a header
