David Luiz

£27 for Agger! £30m for Luiz!!! - pay whatever Bilbao want for Martinez for heavens sake.

Must be a non-story. If we weren't prepared to pay up for Thiago Silva, we certainly won't pay 30mil for Luiz.

Olympics put a big question mark in my mind about Martinez. I'd go all out for Luiz. Mancini would sort out the idiosyncracies

He has improved significantly since his first few months at Chelsea. I actually thought he'd started looking fairly solid by the end of last season but that is an awful lot money though for a defender who still has so much to prove. Either City are getting desperate or the papers are.

He's as clumsy in the box as Richard dunne! 30 mill is stupid money for him.

I was looking for words to describe my personal view of David Luiz..........you have it right on the money......................crap defender! Surely Mancini cannot be serious!

-- Thu Aug 23, 2012 8:03 am --

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Why on earth would Chelsea even consider selling to their main rivals?
Not like they need the cash either is it? Only way it would happen would be if Luiz himself wanted to move, which I see as unlikely. He has compatriots there, seems settled in london, (TS regularly read out his fucking tweets), and being at Chelsea would be deemed just as exciting as being with us right now. Unless he clearly saw us as favourites for the league and other cups, I can't see why he would want to move. If it was from any other club, and I include United in that, then yes but good things could be happening at the Bridge these coming seasons, just as they will be here. All depends what Luiz sees.

Potentially a great player but I am not aware that Roman is short of a quid and its even less likely that he would countenance a sale to his main rival.

In short this paper rubbish is only useful to wrap the fish and chips.

I have been pmd by a trusted poster. We have bid 28m.

............& that is why that trusted poster hasn't actually posted it.

I obviously am not privy to City's transfer dealings or negotiations, but this sounds like bullshit of the highest order.

This is the story : Chelsea have rejected a £30m bid from Manchester City for 25-year-old Brazilian defender David Luiz. City are in the hunt for defensive cover with Micah Richards out of action for 10 weeks through injury.

Now let's examine this closely. City have a 4th central defender in Rekik, our problem is having a good enough one that is readily available currently. This would not cost 30m (we could buy pretty much any central defender in Europe for 30m).

David Luiz is a LEFT-SIDED CENTRAL DEFENDER. Quite what his acquisition would have to do with Micah's injury, I have no idea.

Would it be intelligent to spend 30m on defensive COVER ?

Now saying all of this, I actually quite rate him as a centre-half, and think that he and Vinny would make a superb long-term partnership (with Joleon being in his thirties he can fight with David Luiz for his place short-term)..

If we signed himhe would be 1st choice along side Vinny, not cover....

Luiz technically is a far superior defender than Lescott....

The big problem City have i feel is if Vinny is injured Lescott just does not look the same player...

If we got Luiz, Lescott would become cover..

I rate Luiz, always have done, and think he would be a decent purchase.

Given a choice between him and Martinez I'd definitely plump for Luiz.

Bob will like his versatility, pretty sure he could play in front of the defence as well.

The move maybe forced by the player himself..

They have Terry, Luiz, and Cahill and also Ivanavic can play centre half..

Either Cahill or Luiz will be sat on the bech when they are all fit...

I would imagine Cahill would be first choice as he only signed in Jan so what would Luiz think he a bid came in from the Champions and he is considered to be first choice ?

No debate as every news outlet says rejected.

But they left him out last night so not rejected out of hand, might just be tinkering over final fee?

He was injured last night mate

The gist I got was that he wasn't injured, says in the article that he was left out and has been fined for tweeting that he was injured.

-- Thu Aug 23, 2012 8:47 am --

He was injured last night, he tweeted it in the morning he was gutted to miss the game. I know that as TS mentioned it and said Cahill would be his replacement.
