David Silva (continued)

As each day passes I love him more and more. To have a player of this quality say this about our club and want to form history makes me so giddy.

Already one of my all time favourites, and will be remembered forever. If Aguero, Kompany and Toure stay on as well, these 4 will be remembered as the players that took us to the top, similar to Henry, Pires, Bergkamp etc for the Arse.

History in the making.

Couldn't help myself but look on there, and surprisingly I found something interesting that I'd not really considered before. Someone was defending Silva's record on assists maybe not being as high as you would expect.

He said Silva is more of a guy that "assists the assist." Now it sounds like bollocks, but I actually think there's some merit in what he was trying to say.

You assume the player with the highest assists must be the most creative player. But when you look at the stats, James Milner's assists per game is not far behind Silva's. But I'm sure even the most ardent Milner fan wouldn't put him in the same league as Silva in terms of creativity.

It got me thinking about assists in general. When you analyse it, it's not very often that a player will win the ball, skin 5 players, then lay it across for his mate to tap in. Usually, especially at City, there is a move of 5 or 6 passes leading up to us scoring a goal. A lot of the time the final pass (the assist) is not necessarily the most important one in the passage of play leading up to a goal.

It is the (as Scholes and Neville put it on Tuesday) the "risky" pass which is the important one. The one that opens a team up, puts them on the back foot, creates panic in the opposition, exploits the space in a defence. Silva is without question the best player in the league at playing that pass. Possibly the best in Europe.
Absolutely this....
Yep. Argued the very point numerous times with people last season who were using assist stats to 'prove' that Mata is better than Silva. Which is, was, and always will be utter bollocks.
Just another example of where stats, in and of themselves, pale against what you can see with your own eyes during the game.
There are several different definitions of an assist that have and are being used around the world. The Prem's version is about as narrow as they come and their choice seems pretty arbitrary. I think in the MLS they can credit up to two people with an assist on a goal, which would give more credit where credit's due. Incidentally, Silva didn't even get an assist for winning the penalty against Fulham last week, despite the fact he would have scored had he not been brought down. Many organizations credit players who win penalties with an assist, but not the Prem, so lots of great play that directly leads to goals doesn't count for anything in their stats.

Napoli want to sign David Silva. lmao.

Haha where's this come from?

Aurelio de Laurentagob said he will take Spanish Dave on loan for 6 years with us paying his wages...he's doing us a favour
Fixed.
They must be mad, they could sell their stadium and they wouldn't get enough money for Spanish Dave.

Re: David Silva...

Neville and Carragher have been on sky sports saying how players like Silva are getting away with "murder" for not scoring enough goals. What a pair of twats. Would we be better off with Silva getting 15 goals a season plus Aguero getting 30 plus. or the current situation which is Silva maybe scoring 7 or 8 plus 3 other players on 20 plus goals. I'l stick to t our current way. Its not like there's a shortage of goals, well for us or Liverpool anyway.

Re: David Silva...

its called media bullshit, if he playede for liverpool or united they would be all over him. luckily silva is a cool dude and knows whats up, also he does get alot of attention because he is actually amazing.

I think we all know that david doesnt wanna go off to sunny barcelona, tapas gets old after a while, and he can always go tenerife on his hols.

The uk isnt that bad you know :D
