Not really, he was in the initial squad for the 1970 World Cup squad but didn't make the final cut. The sheer quality of those ahead of him saw him miss out in the days when there was no sub (in the 66 finals) and one in the 70 finalsMaybe some of the older blues could explain to a 20 something, why Oakes had all those appearances and never played for England once? Found this odd.
