David Silva new appearance record for MCFC

One of my favorite 3 ever.
 
There was this lad called Alan Oakes...

It's annoying isn't it? By putting up a fake PL record it actually belittled the genius of David Silva rather than emphasising it.

Who played in an era of 15 man squads, no rotation and 42-46 league games a season.
I think having the two records separate is perfectly valid.

Not in dispute, and not a criticism of Silva. Just an observation on Premier League records.

Maybe some of the older blues could explain to a 20 something, why Oakes had all those appearances and never played for England once? Found this odd.

Obviously he's a legend, but I never got to see him play. Was he unfairly overlooked?

Not really, he was in the initial squad for the 1970 World Cup squad but didn't make the final cut. The sheer quality of those ahead of him saw him miss out in the days when there was no sub (in the 66 finals) and one in the 70 finals

Cheers, I suppose smaller squads played a factor those days.
