David Silva Retires from international football.

I rate Bernado Silva and am so so delight that he will be the long term successor to Dave.

But “incredible performances in the first few games”? We’ve only played 2! One of them was a friendly, in which he was very good. On Sunday he was actually pretty anonymous for large periods of the game, but he scored a fantastic goal which possibly explains the exaggeration.

We play better as a team with David Silva in than without. He knits the team together, makes us more fluid, always offers an outlet, runs the game.

DeBruyne is a sensational player, and he’s all the better for having Dave alongside him. While Dave runs the game, it frees DeBruyne up to take risks with his heat seaking passes.

When Dave is not there, DeBruyne has to take on more of a playmaking role and be more cautious with his passing, and it takes away from his strengths. It’s no coincidence that KDB had his dip in form around the time Dave was away last season.

I’ve seen David Silva written off before. In fact it’s happened every season for the last 5 years. Then the games start, he plays, completely runs the game and then he’s picked for every week.

He might not start 60 games this season, but when fit I’d fancy him to start the majority of PL games and all of the relevant CL games. Reports of his demise have been greatly exaggerated.

I think you’re misinterpreting my post slightly. I’m not writing him off, he’s class and imo, can play for many more years. But the way Bernardo’s started, even in the friendly against Bayern, he was the best player on the pitch. So probably for the first time in Dave’s City career, he will find it hard to get straight back into the team because who will he play instead of? For me, KDB and Bernardo are ahead of him right now.

Let this sink in. Truly remarkable for any International player. Lets hope he gets his CL winners medal this season for a full set in premier competitions.

"125 appearances for Spain, putting him sixth on their list of all-time leading appearances.

He made his debut in 2006 and went on to win the 2010 World Cup, as well as the 2008 and 2012 European Championships.

In total, he scored 35 times, the fourth highest in Spain's history."

Don’t read too much in to friendlies, mate. And I’m not sure if you watched it, but Bernado played on the right against Bayern, was pretty quiet and scored a couple of great goals.

When David Silva is fit, I expect him to start alongside KDB in the same role he played when we got 100 points last season.

Bernado could quite easily play on the right where he has for the vast majority of his City career. I’d also like to see what he can do on the left. I’m sure we’ll rotate a bit and he’ll get games in the middle.

But I’d be very surprised is come the autumn when the big games start if David Silva is regularly being left on the bench for tactical reasons.

In my opinion he is our greatest ever player.
No offence to Colin Bell because I only saw him play a couple of times.
I'm sure Spain will be disappointed by his statement, as players of David's quality are pretty thin on the ground.
It's good news for us.
No more international injuries.
I'm sure that we as fans will be equally disappointed when he hangs up his boots here.
Until that day I'll continue to enjoy his every touch.

I saw Bell at his peak... Silva has surpassed him now for me

If Bernardo had a quiet game against Bayern then god knows what he'd be like if he had a good game. 2 goals, hardly gave the ball away, and outclassed everyone on the pitch. And that's after coming on as a sub! He's been class so far, MOTM against Bayern and Chelsea, clinical against Arsenal so at the minute, he's the first name on the team sheet. Kev is second name on the team sheet hence why Dave is gonna have to fight for his place. So we could play Bernardo on the right where as you point out, he's played for the vast majority of his City career or he can play in the centre where he's played for the vast majority of his football career. When we've got wingers like Sane, Sterling and Mahrez, it's a difficult call. Whatever we decide, we're gonna put out a strong side but the fact is, a fit David Silva doesn't walk into the team anymore.

I'm guessing you didn't watch the full Bayern game? Two fantastic goals, but he was pretty quiet other than that. And it was a friendly, mate. Don't pay them too much attention.

You say Bernado has played "the majority of his career in the middle"? Where? When? He was being played at left back for Benfica, so he left so he could play in midfield. He played on the right for Monaco. He plays on the right for Portugal. So where was this period where he played "the majority of his career in the middle"? I suspect you've just completely made it up.

Bernado does look in good form and I'm sure he'll play plenty of minutes. He'll probably play some minutes in the middle, it's where I suspect he'll end up for us. I think he is the long term successor to David Silva.

But there's no "fact" that a fit David Silva doesn't walk in to our team anymore. It's just your opinion. And based on the mistakes you've made so far, your opinion should definitely not be considered as a fact.

I watched the Bayern game and he was the best player on the pitch. If you take away his goals, he was still probably the best player on the pitch. But a lesson for you is that, in football, you never separate the goals from the performance. If Cristiano Ronaldo hadn't have scored hundreds of goals in his career, he would have had a quiet career. But he scored them goals, and goals require talent. Goals are an indicator of talent and performance and that's why Ronaldo has won multiple ballon D'ors.

As for whether Bernardo Silva has played in the middle before, don't take it from me, take it from the man himself:

"But yeah, I did all my formation as a player since seven until 19 playing in the middle, so playing in those positions, so I am used to that."

So I'm not mistaken, you're the one that's mistaken. I don't expect an apology, I'd just like you to watch a bit more football before you start mouthing off to others about it.

I don't class where he played at 7 as his "career". As a professional footballer, he's played the majority of his career on the right. There really isn't a legitimate argument on that, so it would save an awful lot of both of our time if you just accepted that and moved on.

I do actually think he's better in the middle and as I say, that's where he will end up for us.

But don't write David Silva off just yet. You're probably one of the ones who's done it before. There were dozens on here who said DeBruyne would keep him out of the team. The same ones, laughably looking back, said Gundogan would keep him out of the team. And you all ended up with egg, all over your faces.
