David Silva's Armband

There's a simple solution for those armband wearers of a slight build, whose bands keep slipping down:

If they do put in a complaint after the amount of respect we showed them compared to the total lack of respect many of them showed us, I think we should just simplify it by officially saying that, due to the offence caused, we won't bother wearing armbands in the future.

And that they can go fuck themselves.

MCFC provide legends to present flowers on the pitch before the start of the game.

MCFC lay flowers as a memorial at The Etihad.

Blues pay respects through a minutes silence.

MCFC place an advert in the match programme, showing respect for those who passed away at Hillsborough.

All players wear black armbands.

One player has an armband that doesn't fit him. It causes him discomfort so he removes it. Some scousers are up in arms.
The scousers bring ridicule on to themselves. Using someones death as a stick in which to beat someone is pathetic and as bad as those who trivialise Hillsborough.

I would suggest that the perfect way the Liverpool players could have respected those who passed away, would have been to play the game in the right spirit. Yet we witnessed Suarez and Skrtel blatantly cheating and Henderson committing a nasty, potential leg-breaking, challenge.

After the game on Sunday, Geoff Shreeves asked Gerarrdwhy he was so emotional at the end of teh game. Gerrard only referred to the enormity of the game in terms of the title race. A day later, he comes out to tell the press that the 'real' reason for his emotional out-pouring was because the game took place on the 25th anniversary of the events at Hillsborough. Maybe I am being cynical but it would not surprised me if before the interview he was briefed by the club to say thatas it may be deemed as 'lacking in the grief factor'.

It would not surprise me if there was a standing item of 'maximising grief' at Board meetings or an internal Grief Policy.

Yes, you are being cynical. Given his own cousin died at Hillsborough, I think it's fair to say his grief and emotion were 100% genuine.

Did I say it was not genuine? It may well be genuine but that is not the point I was making. My question is aimed at the club. Regardless, you cannot state, as fact, that he was grieving. It may well be likely but it is not a fact so the fact that you state '100%' does not add value to the point you were making. You may as well write 'end of' or 'fact' at the end of your post.

Why did he feel the need to have to come out to the press and correct himself? Was he instructed by the club to say this?

Am I allowed to say it's all getting a bit overkill now?

I'm not trying to disrespect it in any way, it is and always will be a human tragedy, I was only seven at the time but it was horrific, so all for not forgetting and paying your respects, especially with the police cover-up etc. but we've paid our dues and shown respect now so can we not carry on as normal for another year at least without every tom, dick and harry not even related to the incident in any way bleating on about it.

History is littered with tragedies and events we don't forget, and there is a time and place to remember and show our marks of respect and we then carry on with life until the next anniversarry, this is essentially all I am trying to say (cue a Liverpool fan saying that this in some way is disrespectful)

I've watched the videos a few times now and i might be wrong, you know if your a game changer or going to be heavily involved in a game like this, that the cameras are going to be on you quite a lot,and someone somewhere is going to notice your armband has gone...you know SOME people will say shit about it and you'll get a slating in the media,so for me there is a genuine reason he's removed it.....my theory being....has anyone else noticed he removed it on 39 minutes?..........like I said, could be wrong.

Yes, you're wrong.

i don't know, there could be something in this. silva is known for being a particularly provocative player, always getting himself into the media for stupid indiscretions like this. i'm sure i caught him blowing his nose in the 58th minute against united
