David Silva's Armband

For the obtuse, the permanently outraged and retired/unemployed trigger happy mods may I preface my comments by assuring you I'm not referring to the actual families of the 96 who died

But as for the rest of the Liverpudlian bandwagon jumpers who perpetuate this mindset of victimhood and are still bleating on about the 96 with obscene regularity, well they make me fucking sick. Brendan Rogers and his "let's win it for the 96" bullshit can fuck off. I've known a fair few people who've died since 1989 as has everyone on the planet. Can City win it for them ?

These pricks want a monopoly on grief, fuck em. Let Silva do what he wants. He stood there and respected the minutes silence like everyone else did. Who gives a fuck about an armband.

How many times and in how many ways do these maudlin pricks want us to commemorate the dead. When's it ever gonna end.

No commemoration takes place for the Juve fans the Scousers butchered or that Turkish waiter who some scouse thug murdered. Nope it's all one way with these knobs.

Am I allowed to say it's all getting a bit overkill now?

No, you're not, or you'll be arrested by the Political Correctness Police.

Of course it's overkill. It was a horrible tragedy and the families deserve justice, but the club and fan base use it as an emotional weapon. Rodgers blatantly used the disaster to fire up his team and fans.

Where is the constant reminder of the Bradford fire (56 dead)? Oh, they aren't a big club, so it doesn't count.

I've got absolutely no time for people who try and force others to grieve, or tell them how to grieve. Grief is a personal matter and it's quite frankly no one elses business. It's the poppy nazi's all over again.

I've watched the videos a few times now and i might be wrong, you know if your a game changer or going to be heavily involved in a game like this, that the cameras are going to be on you quite a lot,and someone somewhere is going to notice your armband has gone...you know SOME people will say shit about it and you'll get a slating in the media,so for me there is a genuine reason he's removed it.....my theory being....has anyone else noticed he removed it on 39 minutes?..........like I said, could be wrong.

Yes, you're wrong.

I probably am,just thought it was bizarre that it happened in the 39th minute.

Maybe a bit harsh....but i see where you are coming from.
But what i always worry about , is every year up to 40,000 people stand in that stadium with their heads bowed in silence { quite rightly } and some of them would have been at that semi final without tickets.

MCFC provide legends to present flowers on the pitch before the start of the game.

MCFC lay flowers as a memorial at The Etihad.

Blues pay respects through a minutes silence.

MCFC place an advert in teh match programme, showing respect for those who passed away at Hillsborough.

All players wear black armbands.

One player has an armband that doesn't fit him. It causes him discomefort so he removes it. Some scousers are up in arms.

I would suggest that the perfect way the Liverpool players could have respected those who passed away, would have been to play the game in the right spirit. Yet we witnessed Suarez and Skrtel blatantly cheating and Henderson committing a nasty, potential leg-breaking, challenge.

After the game on Sunday, Geoff Shreeves asked Gerarrdwhy he was so emotional at the end of teh game. Gerrard only referred to the enormity of the game in terms of the title race. A day later, he comes out to tell the press that the 'real' reason for his emotional out-pouring was because the game took place on the 25th anniversary of the events at Hillsborough. Maybe I am being cynical but it would not surprised me if before the interview he was briefed by the club to say thatas it may be deemed as 'lacking in the grief factor'.

It would not surprise me if there was a standing item of 'maximising grief' at Board meetings or an internal Grief Policy.
Yes, you are being cynical. Given his own cousin died at Hillsborough, I think it's fair to say his grief and emotion were 100% genuine.
Bollocks, Gerrard was but a very young lad and I doubt has any memories of his cousin. I had a cousin die when I was 8 also, I can't remember anything about him.

The poster you are replying to is bang on the money, hence his change in story.
