David White appreciation thread

One of my worst days as a City fan was when we swapped him for Rocastle, I never took to his replacement due to White being my favourite player at the time.

Never the same after that damned England cap ( or so it seemed but it could well have been the horrible bits we didn't know about until recently)

What a player though.
David Rocastle was an exceptional player but was past his peak when he came to us. David White probably still had quite a lot to offer I felt,(must have been a bit frustrating for him as he was only a few goals short of a century for us wasn't he!)
If he were going to swap someone I wish it would have been Alan bloody Kernaghan!!
One of my fav White goals was the one where the Luton keeper (thinking a free kick had been given) gave it to Whitey near the halfway line who just simply passed it into the net.
Particularly enjoyed the 4:0 victory as it was the first City v Luton game I'd been to since 'that' really shit one in 83!!!

David was a shining light in a mediocre team. I take my hat off to David and Paul Stewart for going on, depsite the abuse, to have successful careers. Heaven knows how many careers were ruined by that very sick individual. The abuse these people suffered undoubtedly would affect their mood, their relationships, their training and playing. That pain never goes away. Sorry to focus on that side of his life . I totally admire his achievemnets and love for the club but life is more important than football, so I respect him more for his achievements off the pitch.

What an atmosphere that night.
Walked in to my local straight after the game and said: "It's in our hands, if we win every game from here on in, we're champions!!!"
I'm still nervous watching it now! Might need that pint to settle the nerves again!

DW was doing a charity thing in Piccadilly Gardens with Bryan Robson a few days after the game against Derby when Quinn went in nets and saved a penalty. I congratulated him on his goal (can’t remember if he scored both) and got him to sign a copy of the MEN with a picture of him scoring. Not proud to say I thought he was arrogant and like a lot of City players at the time didn’t seem interested in the fans, I threw the MEN copy in the bin as I walked back to work. A few days later I was at Villa Park when he scored four so maybe he deserved to be arrogant.
